Man it was such a great time gettin my truck dirty! i couldnt do much out there but you could go for hours if not days wheelin out there. and depending where you go and how smart you are about it you dont entirely need 4x4. But i so wish it was

    LOL!!!!!!!!

My dad did the same thing back in '74 with our new '74 K5 Blazer on a TDS run!

Lemme guess... that hill was marked as the "green" trail and the "red" trail went around?

Lucky for dad, he had installed skidplates so no damage.
But three guys tried helping us off... first one broke dad's rope and his own strap. Second guy broke his own strap.
Finally a Baja Bug managed to pull us free.
Dad paid for the broken straps, and bought a new one for the guy with the bug.

all around this place was marked for beginners but this mini hill didnt look too menacing when i saw it from the trail just a little taller than the other ones.
thats a funny story about you and your dad, we saw people drive by but not close enough to ak them for help. there was about 5 minutes of me panicking when i first realized i got stuck. but i wasnt too far away from camp

    We were unavoidable.

It was a hill just like that (green arrow), and the red arrow pointed to the right. That path was literally just a 100ft diversion around the little hill.
So we were blocking the "green" trail, and everyone approaching the split could see us standing there, and everyone departing could see us in their mirror.

We had a feeling that someone swapped the arrows. It wasn't far from the start of the run so it was still more like a parade than anything else.
Help was quick and volunteered... we didn't have to wave anybody down.
That's why dad felt so bad about the broken straps... but in '74, we didn't have kevlar or some of the other materials available.
We had a yellow nylon rope that looked like it belonged on a boat.
The others were more like seatbelt material but thicker.

So that "stuck" cost him 4 straps since he has to replace ours as well.
He got the guys' names and addresses and UPS'd them the replacements next time we went to Cepek's old Southgate shop.

Im in the same boat with mine. 5k for a well built s/c kit or 3k at max for a long block, trans, harness, ecu, walborro, and a flash on the cluster. Just need a house with a garage to get the project started.
