Gonna buy a blown up 125 from a buddy next week for $200. Should be a quick top end rebuild and flip it back for a little cash

Hey guys got a quick question or two for you inclined folks. I'm restoring a 1997 Honda CR125 (racing enduros district 14 (15)). I finished tearing it down about a month ago and now I'm just waiting on my tax return to finish her off. The previous owner (my cousin) had a pro circuit expansion chamber and exhaust on it. It is being replaced with a FMF Turbine and Fatty "header", will I need to have the bike jetted? If so how much am I looking at price wise to have a dealer dial it in? I also need to send the forks and shock off to be rebuilt, has anyone used factory connection before?

You're gonna have to take it for a ride and see how its running to really make that determination. Jetting widely varies by location, temp, elevation, humidity, in addition to any engine mods you make, so its very possible the bike could need some jetting work.

That said, if you can restore a bike, you can definitely jet a carb on your own and I wouldn't bring it to the dealer.

For the suspension I'd just send the shock in and do the forks myself, they're super easy. Just need a few specialty tools. Look up how to videos on YouTube.

I'd wager the jetting would be very similar between a pro circuit and FMF system on the same motor. It should be close enough you would only need minor tweaks to get it right.

I had a 97 CR125 back in the day. Last year of the steel frame on the 125. Great motor on that thing.

Yeah for the jetting do lots of reading, it's really not hard once you get the basics down.

Easy to do yourself. Any idea what jetting you currently have? FMF has pretty good baselines for jetting with their pipes. Take a look at the link below and see what your jetting is compared to what FMF recommends. If you are anywhere close to what they say to use then go ahead and take it for a ride and see how it feels first then you can fine tune from there

    http://www.fmfracing.com/ridersupport/jettingcenter

Suspension is a little tougher but can be learned, if you just want someone to do it for you factory connection is very good

Have you guys ever cleaned up a midpipe/exspansion chamber before? Whats the best way to do it? I was going to blast it with baking soda? After scrubbing some of the surface grime off I realized the pipe is already a FMF Fatty, so I'm going to try and save it instead of dropping $200 on a new one and then denting it during practice.

A wire wheel on a drill works well too. It's also a nice way to clean up aluminum like the outside of the head and jug.

Sandblaster works so amazing for pipe refinishing.
Powdercoated my frame too. Easiest (cause someone else does it) and super durable finish.

That looks amazing!!!! I ordered some new parts that should be here Thursday so I'm hoping to jump on the cleaning portion tomorrow after class. Picked up some scotchbrite pads today, so hopefully I can muscle through most of it! It will be interesting, most of the dirt/grease has been on there for 5+ years......

Dusted the cobwebs off my YZ this afternoon after work. Only did about 15 minutes on it through the woods by my house but still had a lot of fun.

My dirt bike puts a smile on my face.

Thanks. I like the yellow and black or white and red Yamahas better than the dark blue color.

I want to get one of these as well. 15 YZ250F.
