OK, I did a keyword search and didn't find anyone else reporting this particular problem. So here goes...

Three weeks ago I went to lock my truck with the keyfob and I heard the locks set but didn't get the beeps telling me it was locked. Check the handles and the drivers door had not locked. Tried it with the button inside the door and it still didn't lock. Locked it manually with the lever by the door hand and that worked. OK, so I figured the actuator was the issue. No problem, still under warranty. Took the truck into the dealer who replaced the actuator and everything seemed fine. A few days later I have the same issue. Door didn't lock with the fob. Tried a few more times then it worked again. The next day same thing. Took it in to the dealer thinking a connector wasn't fully seated when they changed out the actuator. They went in checked everything, told me it should be fine and sent me on my way. You guessed it, two days later it won't unlock with the fob. All other doors do, just not the drivers. try a few more time and it finally works again. The next day it happens again. Go back to the dealer and the service manager is now involved. Has the tech "reset" my system by disconnecting the battery letting it set 20 minutes then hooking it back up. Service Manager, "That should fix it, sometimes the computer just gets confused a bit when we change parts out"... Me "Uh, ok, I'll take your word for it. See ya next week" Guess what, it's next week and yet again it is still doing the same thing. Keep in mind, I understand that an intermittent problem is the toughest to troubleshoot but I think even the 20 year old, blonde, eye candy counter girl looked like she thought the whole reset thing was reaching.

Any idea what I should tell the Service Manager so THEY can do their job and fix it?

Tell him you'd like a loaner until the issue is fixed and open a case with Toyota.

At a guess, it's the handle & cable assembly in the door itself. Not sure if the setups on new trucks are adjustable or not, but having one out of whack just a little bit will cause intermittent issues. We ran into it a few times back when I was writing service at a shop; new assembly fixed it every time. They put a lot of plastic into them now, and it can deform. The end result is like working the action on a pump shotgun; sometimes you can short-stroke and it'll still manage to feed, other times it'll jam.

They won't listen to anything i say. Lol
Unless it dies it's really hard to catch it.
I have seen a bad new actuator.
    Bad wiring
    Bad main body ecu.
Not your fob system since it would not work with door switch either.

Yea no Reset for that .....

Going to have to catch it while doing it or take a shot.

Did a quick tsb search with no pop up.

Thanks for the eye candy though..

Are you 100% sure your closing the door all the way ? I have heard of this issue before and it turned out the driver door was closed but not fully latched causing this exact issue. Next few days every time you close your driver door I would make sure its 100% closed. It's simple but it can cause this issue. The only fix is making sure the driver door is fully latched closed.

I would look at this as a possible cause first. My daughter catches me with all the time. The door is shut but not fully latched. If this doesn't solve the issue, I would look at the lock mechanism to make sure it is moving freely and not jammed up.

Shot in the dark but i have tried to leave my keys in my truck and lock it by touching the door handle and if your fob is within a certain proximity of the center console it won't allow me to lock it. Could be the proximity zones for the push start ignition. When it does happen again check the dash through your drivers window to see if anything comes up on the display.
