Considering looks only, Id rather have my 2011 any day. That front grill and bumper look U-G-L-Y.

So you're saying that the new Tacoma is a re-badged Suzuki which is a re-badged Nissan?

I'm starting to wonder if we're being trolled here.

    • The chrome handles/mirrors already exist in the Limited trim.
    • The cab is identical save for a new pinch in the front door metal because the new fender doesn't flow into it. Plus possible sunroof.
    • The box is the same, save for sheetmetal.
    • It's missing mudflaps.
    • The tailpipe is unadorned, which looks chintzy- especially for "release" photos.

My guess is that this is a test mule that has some prototype metal and changes incorporated into it and sprayed blue for a quick photoshoot. Then Toyota surreptitiously released the photos to gauge reactions.

I'm holding out for a totally new truck! I still believe!

I hope the suspension will be the same so I can transfer my current one to it.

    Don't believe, this isn't the X-Files.

Why would they do all this work just to gauge reaction less than a week before it's official unveiling?

I'm not in denial about this. Unfortunately this is how Toyota deals with it's loyal customers, treating them like crap.

This was my first thought LOL Holy crap. Talk about a mess. I was getting worried for awhile that I would regret buying my '13 because of this new model. Unless it has some major power train upgrades I definitely favor the pre 2016 models more.

    Everybody's a whiner.

My mileage sucks! Toyota: give me more emm-pee-gees! ... But for god's sakes don't put an air dam on to improve the aerodynamics.

It's a new model! Make it look different! But not like that!

I swear, the TW idea of a successful refresh would be to re-introduce the first-gen with a diesel in it.

I would be ok with that. If I could have bought a first gen with 0 on the clock when I bought my 13' I probably would have done it.

I can't tell if it's hideous or I've just gotten so used to my modified truck that all stock trucks look horrible to me now.

...Just checked. Nope. Original 2nd gen in stock trim still looks better than this abortion. I think what's annoying me the most are two things:

    - The grill is way disproportionate to the headlights. Makes the truck look like someone punched it in the nose.

    - The truck got fatter (again), but the tires didn't. The stock 31s were undersized for the original 2gen and they're way too small here. Makes the 4wd look like a 5lug.

Does anyone know when the 3rd gen tacoma is going to be released?

This whole section needs to be put back in the 2nd gen forum. What a let down.

I would love to believe this was a fake, but I doubt it. Did they not focus group this thing? It's awful. Toyota's compact/mid-sized trucks have always been the best looking on the market, the dream truck for kids, and now they come up with this?

I was set up to purchase of one of these the second it came out, but no more. The strakes on the cab don't match the bed at all. The bloated nose is full of fake vents. The grill is mostly plastic - masking the fact that it is way bigger than the truck actually needs for cooling. I realize front end bloat is a current truck trend, as suburbanites seem to crave faux-tough, but this is a terrible implementation of it.

I know it's bad when I would prefer a Canyon with a Toyota badge. At least the Canyon design looks cohesive. The folks at GM must have cheered when they saw this. I want to believe in better motors and an improved frame, but this exterior is so bad that I think I have to look elsewhere.

What I really want to know:

Have they changed the e-locker rear diff to be good enough? Somehow I doubt it.

Have to agree on that. New Canyon/Colorado definitely looks better. Pains me to say it.

So this is the long-awaited 3rd gen. I could live with the front end, minus the air dam, but that back end looks awful. Let's hope they surprise us next week with a diesel engine option...
