The 2021 Toyota Hilux is impressive, makes the Tacoma look like a Camry. :(

Seems badass for a single dude/gal with some chihuahuas. Pretty small for most.

I dont know man. Since the diesel colorado came out, i have seen maybe 10 in my neck of the woods? And i live in a pretty big metropolitan city. They are not a huge hit seems like. The fuel savings take a while to pay off you know.

Cost a shitload and maintenance is crazy. Go read colorado diesel forums:)

I have a 2020 ZR2 Diesel, the extra up front cost pays for itself at the pump. The DEF isn’t expensive, the only other item i can think of that will require more frequent attention is the fuel filter. When compared to my 2018 TRD Off-road it has a lot of things that I like better, but if the Tacoma powertrain was still the previous Gen I would probably have kept it.

I hope the new mid sized trucks prompt Toyota to change and really be the top of the game again.

If there’s one ghost I haven’t seen, it’s the Tacoma with the failed composite bed. Not sure why this feature of the Tacoma gets so much hate. Metal beds look like shit after 2 months and get dented up and rusty. I’m not sure I consider a metal bed an upgrade, but sure whatever.

I definitely would. I'd probably go with a Colorado/Canyon over that, unless I went full size. The Ridgeline is absolutely a non-factor for me.

I've seen quite a few out where I live. The only complaints I've heard consistently about them has to do with the DEF system. The EPA regulations, unfortunately, scare many manufacturers away from developing a cleaner diesel engine for the US.

Yes, but the diesel option in my neck of the woods is about 10k more. How long would that take you to pay off in fuel savings? 10-15 years?

Toyota should put a fuel pump access panel in the bed, even if there wasn't a recall it would come in handy to becable to access the pump with out having to drop the tank or pull the bed. IDK if adding a panel would have a negative impact on the structural integrity of the bed.

Diesel makes more sense in AUS than US. Would love the numbers though

True. My ranger's bed looked like ass after couple years of use. My taco? Looks great, except for some scuffs and dirt.

To be fair, I'm not sure how well the Hilux would do here. Although, presumably, the Taco wouldn't exist.

    All the things!
It happens, but not regularly and usually (always) because of abuse.

But punching a hole in a steel bed is just as easy, if not easier.

Hilux diesel would never pass north american Nox and particulate emissions.

I personally would hate daily driving a midsized diesel, especially in Canada.

    OME and worth every penny.
If anyone in a new diesel has ever ran out of cat piss and had no more cat piss to put in the cat piss bottle and had to idle all the way to next place that had more cat piss, you'd frown on having a cat piss powered vehicle.

Might be getting too old for this.
Been deployed all over the world. Driven Hiluxes in many countries and they are not superior to Tacomas...IMO of course.

I work with a Australian and he has told me the new hiluxes are basically shitboxes made in Thailand, but that’s also what a lot of guys say about Tacomas so who knows?

I think his quote that stuck with with is “ride like shit, look like shit, with a shit interior, not sure what the appeal is”
