There’s absolutely no chance it would have a 4.0 v6. Why would you want than anyway? The new 2.4 actually has a truck like torque curve and will absolutely demolish the old 4.0 and 3.5. If they are putting the 2.4 in the Land Cruiser why would they put a larger engine in the new 4 runner which will most likely slot below the new land cruiser in their lineup. And if it’s getting 27 mpg combined in the LC you would have to be pretty daft to want a larger, less efficient, less powerful engine in the name of perceived reliability. It’s complete conjecture based on the uninformed idea that a smaller displacement turbo will be unreliable. The 2.4 has been benchmarked and tested to meet the same durability standards at the 4.0 and 3.5, the fact they are putting them in all their body on frame 4x4’s should be enough evidence.

Just a troll. Can't comprehend how a 4cyl can be more powerful than a V8.

4 cylinder isn't manly enough to compensate for their small feet.

Still can get a diesel in Jeep, yeah? and the GM half-tons.

I looked hard at both, but both brands are known for premature failures. Can’t bring myself to spend my money on one.

After test driving the Colorado, Bronco, and Ranger. Totally convinced me the gas turbo will be fine. Actually feels like a truck engine compared to what we have now and in the past. Have owned Toyotas from the 22R days. Sure diesel Toyota would be nice, but oh well. Pretty sure once they get the EV with solid state batteries available to the public, we will all forget about gas and diesel engines.

It's an abomination. I will never drive a 2024 Tacoma, or Tundra for that matter.

I would have maybe liked something a little retro.

They really need to rethink their design team at Toyota.

Some people just can’t be happy until they find something to be pissy about. There’s a few things on this truck I probably would’ve done differently if I were designing it specifically for me. But the people that are over the top about it are just drama queens.

It doesn’t really look all that much different from a 3rd gen. A few little details here and there as far as the aesthetics go. Get over it. It’s going to sell by the millions.

Land Cruiser 250 still could be the the 6th gen 4R that replaces the 5th gen. It's already on the 4G Tacoma platform and it's a midsize SUV. I'm thinking Toyita is keeping the 5G around because the 250 isn't going to show up until closer to 2025.

Nope no diesel or V6. 2.4t hybrid in the LC, and 3.5tt in the GX. Which asks the question where would Toyota build a 6G 4R that's going to share more hardware with the 4G Tacoma? The simple answer would be Mexico, but does Toyota take resources away from Tacoma production to fill 4R allocations? Does Toyota build a 3rd plant in Mexico to build 4R, which is a low volume seller for Toyota in NA? That seems like the most unlikely scenario. Does Toyota build 4R in Japan? If that's the case I don't see much Tacoma going into the 6G 4R, outside of sharing the same frame architecture. Toyota is already selling the LC 250 in NA that can fill all of future 4R demand.

    Again with that stupid logic?

Do you feel manlier if you have a truck that gets 5 MPG?

People buy trucks because they need or want a truck. Not to save fuel. But getting better fuel economy on what you want to get is a good thing. Am I seriously explaining this?

4runners are still built in Japan to this day.

You mean people buy trucks to DO TRUCK WORK? Or you mean people who buy truck just to pretend they need the TRUCK.

I am in no rush, we can wait and see how small engine will be towing, choking and glitching when weight is put. Oh and how will it do in deep mud & off road handing truck over 4K pounds of weight + passenger weight and payload.

Enjoy your smol RAV4 engine in your TRUCK.
