Shit, better print a ninth for me!

Something magic about those Goldens, and 8 mikes sounds like a fun day to me.

Of course I'm the guy who would walk 8 miles in only to realize he left the lures in the truck or something.

Cool that you got to see the inside of the church... I've been wanting to photograph that place for a while. Hoping to someday convince Brent to let me try some night photography in town.

Seeing a movie there would be a fun novelty. Although my go-to is the theater is in Bishop -- something about that theater takes me straight back to childhood!

I can see how recent evolution of Cerro Gordo can be seen as disappointing, especially the fire, but at the end of the day, it's not the only ghost town around, and I think it is on a unique trajectory for the future. It's private land, not a state park, so maybe that calibrates my expectations. I always enjoy stopping by, even when they're too busy to let me do anything other than drive through town. Just driving over the mountain is great, or hiking up in the snow. Sometimes it's a ghost town (lol) and sometimes they welcome you with open arms and show you cool stuff.

Nice. Best job I ever had was working on trout restoration projects within the Kern drainage.

On one bp trip, I had to cross the Kern River, used Crocs as camp and stream crossing shoes. Foot got hung up in some rocks, pulled my foot up without the Croc, watched it bob down the river, too rocky to chase it down. Discovered in the abraided channel that while working my way across the water, the camera I had hanging around my neck had gotten dunked in the water. Useless the rest of the trip. That was the third day out.

Not locked. :). Any more I just trudge across, takes too long to dry my feet out. Last two trips to Idaho and Oregon, I finally walked thru the many water crossings. One hike, first day had 16, some you could hop across.

Never tried Crocs but, I never leave a trail head without Tevas - boots are optional.

Crocs are my #1 wading, hiking, river, surf - summertime chill shoe. Have caught trophy sized trout in them, hiked part of the PCT, recovery from surgery, cruise the streets in them. No shame they’re my favorite footwear other than my redwing moc toes

Thank you. Pretty large now, 80 lanterns are a fraction of my stove count. At least 17 stoves are 100+ years old.

I was always unsure where to explore for bping trips, did not know where trailheads were etc. I always bped around Lake Tahoe until around '92 when there was an article in Backpacker magazine showing elevation for some areas down by Mammoth. Bam! I knew Golden Trout were above 10,000', so the next summer I made plans for a week long trip down by Mammoth Lakes. Did not catch one for years. They are up at least one Recess.

I had a few golden trout fried up on the JMT in the 80s. Yummy.

On my 50th birthday, I went portal to portal to the top of Mt Whitney, left at 5AM, got back to the parking lot around 5:30PM. Was able to get a shower then. :). The last couple miles was tough.
When I was still working, after work I’d drive down to Mammoth or Bishop and find a dispersed campsite to lay out my ground cloth for the night for a quick start in the morning.
From my last trip into the Angel Adams Wilderness. Only fish I caught, that was a rough trip, did see one bear the third day out, lost the trail for an hour, about ready to lay down on the trail an cry that third day out, finally found the trail again.
