I've spent several recent July 4th weekends up in the Mazourka area... always delightful, and no loud noises. Yet still close enough to swoop into civilization by day.

Wife's family used to do Crowley and stay at Mammoth each year as a fourth-of-july tradition, but lost interest due to the commercialization.

Now it's just her and I up in the back country enjoying the silence.

Honestly, driving an hour up 4x4 roads on either side of the valley should put you out of earshot of the festivities. I've never heard anyone doing fireworks beyond the valley floor, and target shooters are rare and well behaved, at least compared to popular SoCal desert destinations.

I'm a little confused as to why this is called Nightmare Rock, because KISS and Paul Stanley are hardly terrifying. Oderus Urungus from Gwar seems much more appropriate.

It's been recently repainted with the big red lips, a while back it used to be mostly teeth and fewer eyelashes. I'm in favor of a gwar rendition

The CHP incident logs on the CalTrans QuickMap app give pretty good details. Apparently they stopped escorted runs on Hwy 6 around 1:15AM due to fast moving fire but resumed an hour later. Hoping there’s no serious damage to property. Meanwhile it’s snowing pretty hard not much further north although a bit higher up.

I was wondering if you where Mammoth or Tahoe/Truckee. I got rid of the dedicated trail rig but I still have my wife's 2009 4Runner. Stock running boards and all. lol

It's good enough for everything in Owens Valley with the exceptions of Wheeler Ridge and Royal Gorge. If I ever put skids on it Wheeler Ridge will be doable. The only thing I don't do in it is real snow wheeling. Locked F/R is needed for that if you wanna actually go anywhere. lol

haha yea, I do some good snow wheeling here and there but I also go VERY prepared. Traction boards, shovels, and bodies to use said shovels. Only got the rear locker.

I made it out to siphon tub a few weeks ago when there was at least 2 feet of snow on the ground. It was an adventure.
