    Nah.

I'm always surprised by the way climbers just move in and take over and almost without much regard for others (ie; roaming dogs-which is something I just do not understand). I wonder if it's because it's a group that are mostly not outdoors people to begin with? By that, I mean so many people start indoors then go outdoors but may never have been avid campers?

I figured out your start and finish points (and mines and cabins locations too). Holy cow, you climbed >4,000' that day, and with thin air! Well done!

No. I mean climbers. If you'd read the article, you would have understood that. But yeah, I'm sure the instacampers haven't helped either.

No mentorship to teach outdoor etiquette is a big part of it. I've had a "talk" with more then a few youngsters that leave pads on trails, have barking dogs, blast techno(I fucking hate techno), and generally don't give a shit about other users. For the most part they are receptive and it's just blatant ignorance that causes the issues. When they aren't receptive I throw on my shoes and send their project. With ease. That usually makes them comply. lol

It's all about the instant gratification, unfortunately I'm afraid the age of ME is here to stay.

I believe the age of ME has existed long before any of us were alive. We just notice it more as we gain life experiences.

True, but it seems to be exacerbated with the quest for "likes/notice me daddy" on whatever the social media du jour happens to be.

At the risk of drifting off topic, this is a key point. Yes, we’ve always had narcissists and from time to time each of us probably does something narcissistic. That’s natural.

Social media platforms are specifically engineered based on human psychology to enhance addictive narcissistic behaviors so that the platform can profit from them. In the past people were just the usual amount of narcissistic. Today some of the richest companies in the world have strong profit motives to actually make their users more narcissistic. That is a big difference from the past.

I spent many hours in the P3 Orion over the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean with a follow on tour on the Canadian CP-140 Aurora. Love that airplane!

oh, btw I was born in Bishop so that’s my connection back to this thread.

I never understood why the Aurora had some old ass electronics for so long. The P3 pilots used to hang out in Mountain View at the St. James Infirmary. Sawdust on the floor, shit hanging from the ceiling. It was a pretty sweet club. Burned to the ground and now it's a Hampton Inn.

Interesting question, I’ve been out of the service for many years but the Aurora tactical electronics were based on the S3 Viking tactical suite and in some aspects were superior to the P3C II/III at the time. When the S3’s were retired the Aurora’s were left with what they had. I don’t know if Canada has plans to procure the P8 in the future?

They've undertaken a modernization program but just not sure how far or whether they'll go whole hog and go with the P8 program.

Getting way off topic, but I’d forgotten about that place. Another funky pub now in the history books, along with The Oasis, Antonio’s Nut House, The Old Pro … I think The Sports Page is still there.

We used to call the Sports Page building 13. It was next to the real building 14. Lived within walking distance of Antonio‘s and the Old Pro. And managed to have a burger at the O before it closed. The Dutch Goose is more upscale these days.

there aren’t many bars like these around anymore. Maybe Zot’s. Even Alice’s is much nicer and better. Might have to go to La Honda and Apple Jack’s for the real deal experience.
