    Just the basics
    Same.
I witnessed about four trains deployed while camping near Mono Lake one night a few years ago.

This weekend was my first time with weboost out in Johnson Valley for KOH. I parked in the same spot I do every year to watch the race. In this spot there is always no service on the ground, but crystal clear service if I stand on my tailgate. This time I had service all weekend and it was great. For just this instance it was perfect. I don't have much experience with it yet, but I'm sure there's going to be instances that it doesn't do anything. For me I need my phone I'm young so I don't remember the 80's or 90's and am always on call for work. Also what I do know is I'm newly married and need contact with my wife or she will find a way to make contact and I'd rather not go through that.

Here’s a rather timely article. It points out there were 24k collision avoidance maneuvers between June and November last year. If there are collisions, that means more junk floating which may or may not burn up in the atmosphere.

Yep. It is kind of like actual trains in Mojave National Preserve. The first few are “Yay a train! Who doesn’t like trains?” The seventh one at 3:30 am becomes tiresome.

That is way more of them than I expected. Now I'm confused as to why they even need those highly-visible trains...

When the satellites are deployed, they're grouped together for several months as they eventually reach their station keeping positions. They don't stay bunched up but with so many launches, it seems like they do.

I just cannot get over the total number of satellites just for StarLink and the total number planned.

Ah. So the trains are them grouped up until they deploy into their planned orbit. Interesting. I wonder why they're so obvious and bright in the train, because, while I see satellites otherwise, they're generally not nearly as noticeable.

I went outside just as one was passing, according to the link above.
I did not see the satellite, but the stars are amazing.

I think it's because they are bunched, reflective, and because they are closer to the earth. As they get pushed up, they spread out. Imagine what that satellite image is gonna look like with 40k satellites in orbit?

Put them at an altitude of 340 miles instead of 5 miles and we will get very grumpy indeed…

Here it is the end of February and camping season is around the corner. As a reminder, we gotta have a campfire permit to have a fire or use a propane stove--which I take to mean a propane fire as well. Get yours here. The questions are the same as last year as is the 2-1/2 minute video :D

We should plan a trip when there's a launch so we can check it out.
