I live on a lake and tow and launch a plethora of boats all through the year for myself, friends and the yacht club I belong to. There is nothing that helps towing more then power mirrors for smaller trucks. Bigger rigs have very large top to bottom views, smaller trucks don't seem. Back up cameras are an aid in connecting, especially with boats you aren't accustomed too. It's one shot and you're there. It's a big safety feature that should and is mandated for all new vehicles. How about air conditioning ? ;-)

I lived in Florida for 18 years.

I had working A/C for 12 of those years. The last 12; I made more money, had nicer vehicles, and had nothing but working A/C to go with a higher required dress code at the office :)

From 2008 or so onwards, it's been all Tacos!

I have a friend that works for 7 Islands a huge logging business in Ashland Maine they have company trucks among them are Tacoma's they use the big trucks to go to town and routine things like that because they can get more people in them. His comment "we use the Tacoma's in the woods because we know we are getting back out". Another friend has a 4 door 4X4 250 Ford diesel he pulls a goose neck trailer generally freighted. It’s just slightly shorted than a school bus and weights 8,300# and only cost him a bit more than two new Tacoma’s if you open the hood and look carefully you can see an engine buried under the cowling. If any of you have ever worked on a newer Ford diesel I really feel sorry for you they are a mechanics worst nightmare. No thanks I'll stick to something that fills my needs not a giant monster truck decked out in leather with a radio that answers your phone. It’s not for nothing Toyota kept the Tacoma’s simple that’s what most people that use their trucks want.

That movie was one of the reasons I started buying Toyotas, that and trips out to AZ to visit my aunt...waaay more Toyotas running around there than there was in PA at the time.

I got a lot of flack for buying a Toyota, PA was very anti-foreign vehicle. Crazy how popular they have become.

Most of you guys who live south of the snow belt and own two wheel drive Tacos and love them in 4 cylinder form, is fine. Just remember one thing. Toyota like nearly all truck makes, make most of their trucks in 4 wd because that's what most of the country wants. All pick up trucks are designed around that fact and it is one of the main reasons why bigger Motors are available. 4 wd, highway travel, longer 127 inch wheel bases and 4 cylinders is a tough sell. Sorry, you guys are in the minority for Toyota truck owners...just fact. My 4 cylinder rwd Toyota trucks were good peformers, my 4 wd 4 cylinder trucks were marginal and my sixes were both good again. Facts of life.

You should probably look up the actual definitions of words before trying to use them in convincing fashion. You look less stupid when you use them correctly.

For instance, things called 'opinions' are not and, by definition, cannot, be called 'facts'.

English, motherfucker, do you speak it?

I do believe Dagosa is correct, 4 banger 2WD's are in the minority of buyers. Back in PA they we ok, when I moved out West they weren't adequate, long stretches of highway and elevation kills the little 4...some times I feel the 6 isn't quite enough, especially when we go to Colorado and try to pull those mountain passes.

Go to the Pacific Northwest...there are some steep long roads there too.

I dunno, believe the Taco should have numbers closer to 300 mark for HP/TQ. The new 6 might get it there, Hell, I would be happy if it got the 4.0 out of the 4Runner. 4.7 V8 would be even better....

The 4 is ok for flatlanders, tho'

Being correct does not equate to something being a fact.

That's where I try to make sure the distinction is made. Words mean things. Some times those things are important.

Now, granted, normally, important is a pretty low bar in a discussion regarding the relative merits of pickup truck engines. But when 'facts' start getting slung around all willy-nilly is normally when shit starts going all sideways.

I would look at sales numbers for the facts, one of the reasons Toyota done away with the regular cab, sales numbers indicated it wasn't worth keeping around.

Here is one source for trucks in general relative to 4wd and not just Toyota.
    http://blog.caranddriver.com/differ...fwd-vehicles-are-sold-in-the-u-s-infographic/
State by state info is there too.

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Toyota2015.shtml

Check here, for the mileage comparison between 2wd and 4wd Tacomas, with both the four and the six. In 2wd, the four is much better then the six. In 4 wd, the opposite is true by a slight amount. The four suffers dramatically in 4 wd which is the drive train that is sold the most.

One other item that is interesting in checking the mileage figures is......the old Tack 2.7 in present form with a manual 5 speed, equals the new four of the Colorado....22 mpg combined. That may be one reason why Toyota just added a six speed auto instead of a new four. I bet the mileage of the 2016 Taco 2.7 Four in Two wheel drive may best that of the Colorado.

Mileage should be real close in the 4cyl/2WD platform...Chevy has the power edge though.

The mileage is so close, between the 4 and the 6 in the 4WD platform, doesn't make sense to get the 4 and take a ding on power. (If you you need 4WD, like me)

the old four Taco has 180 ft lbs of Torque ( similar to the chevy four) and is more then competitive in most respects. The Taco fours I have driven in 2 wd were really quite good with the manual. The 2016 six speed auto will be Benefitial with that decent torque. The Old Toyota is lighter then the new Colorado. If another couple hundred pounds are chopped off, the better. Neither truck is good in 4 wd without a six if highway travel is important....I agree.

I have a 14 reg cab taco with the 2.7l 5spd and I love it wheeling it has the power and torque needed to stay with jeeps and I feel it's a very comparable motor for its size

Well, first, I tried to put a cap of Sam Jackson from the movie right over the line and went full retard on the UI, so out of context, it looks worse than it is.

Even as such...if you think that's a 'personal attack' then your skin is so thin I don't know how you don't bleed out trying to type. Speech to text maybe?

Opinions, regardless of correctness, are not (by definition) facts. This is what the words mean. This is not up for negotiation.

I stand by my original post.

Unless you factor in the 3K price difference in a new Tacoma.
