I have almost every channel possible. I think I'm getting the same amount of entertainment as no cable.

    Sort of.

wii + Netflix = All 76 episodes, on demand

Hard to beat for a few dollars a month. I may downgrade our cable package.

Ya... Been channel surfing all day.
Went through everything the DVR recorded last 2 weeks.
Ended up watching trucks racing in dirt on Speed.

Can't watch Netflix or a DVD... receiver is screwed up and only responds to remote commands every other day. Have to turn it on and off and adjust the volume manually. Audio self-switches on the fiber optic input between DTV and the Blu-Ray, but it won't switch video sources.

New Sony receiver will be here Tuesday. Nice... it does HDMI upscaling, so we'll be able to run the Wii (1st Gen) into it and run HDMI to the TV when we upgrade in a few months.

The Wii was annoying. It does composite, and I have a Component cable for it, but quick changes from a light to a dark screen... or dark to light, cause the component input on the receiver to overload and it shuts off momentarily (and that's a problem with the Wii, not the receiver).

    Yes... you read that.
Yesterday, the receiver responded to volume commands, but we had to turn it on and off manually.
Today, it's not responding to anything.
    Thursday, it was working properly.
Been like that since Monday (wife couldn't turn it off last Sunday night but didn't say anything).

137 episodes of the real Top Gear, on demand. Netflix is the way to go.

Bad power killed it? The damn scrappers have harvested a hell of a lot of ground wires around here. I doubt many people realize the cumulative effect.

We're still on the Wii and 360. The 360 has the edge in graphics, but it's noisy, a PITA to navigate, and a money pit compared to the Wii. Our 34" CRT Sony is HD, but being that size makes lower resolution sources look better than on a 60".

    No clue.

Works beautifully. If I felt like navigating the buttons and cursors and twisty knobs to select, I could manually change the input source, but it's a PITA so it stays where we know it works.

It's an Onkyo 5.1 receiver and close to 10 years old. TV is an old Sony rear-projection... 5 inputs but only one supports HD (on component, so 1080i is our max rez). Boss GAVE it to me in 2004 when he upgraded to a plasma. No clue how old it was when he gave it to me, but I recall running the part number and Sony sold them in '98-'00... still on the original lamps. Just pop the back cover off and blow out the dust once a year.
Been looking for an excuse to upgrade to a 7.1 system and add a couple of nice tower speakers to the front stage, and to get rid of the (4:3) Sony and move up to a 55" flat panel. I fucked up when I built the entertainment center... made the thing to fit the Sony TV with only a couple of inches to spare, and we're now right on the edge of a 55" TV not fitting. MOST 55" panels won't fit, but a few with the thinner border will fit.
Our last CRT was a 32" RCA. When we got the big screen, I took it out to my buddy's trailer in the desert to replace the POS 27 that "came with the place"
The Wii is a bit of a sore subject around here.
She insisted on having a Wii-Fit to "get in better shape". I should have known better.

I spent weeks finding and buying the system... this was on the cusp of the release of the 2nd Gen (black) unit, so Sony was not shipping and stock was low everywhere. I found one unit about 40 miles from here and bought it. Finding the motion-sensitive footboard was a major ordeal. ended up finding one online... paid $70 over MSRP for the thing.

It has never been used once.
The Wii unit was used for Netflix until I upgraded the DVD to a Blu-Ray (which could handle the high-def Netflix content). The Wii has not even been turned on in about 3 years.

I haven't been into any kind of serious gaming since 2001.

Totally burned myself out from '95 to '01... hardcore Quake II and Quake III Weapons Factory, Counterstrike, and Operation Flashpoint.... played from when I got home from work until 2am sometimes.
The cheaters made the games no fun. Steam was buggy as hell (stayed on GameSpy as long as possible), and playing terrorist/counter-terrorist lost it's lustre after 9/11 (but at that point, I was really just looking for an excuse to hang it up).

About the only thing I would use the Wii for... if I felt like digging out the "gun", is the Wii version of the arcade game "Big Buck Hunter"

I just canceled my Netflix DVD account.
Haven't used that side of it since 2009... paying too much every month for it. Fuckit. Only reason I had it was for Blu-Ray rentals, and Redbox has made Netflix obsolete on that.

I'll keep their streaming because DirecTV's streaming is so limited. The only thing that's free on DTV is shows that have recently aired. Movies are still either PPV or pay-per-download.
