At least you've given some thought to it. The reason there isn't a quick disco kit is because a simple kit designed around the end links won't work. More than likely, the bar itself would need to be modified to move the connection point away from the ends. Doing that would leave the ends attached and captured, but it'd also be much more complicated project. I've read about a Rubicon system that works like that, with a splined collar that slides between the ends. That'd work for us, but Toyota isn't interested in producing it.

We were talking about registration and tax issues, not insurance. Insurance is easy. Call up agent with camper VIN, let them know if there's a lien, and what will be used for a tow vehicle. They add it to the policy and email a registration card. Done.

O-care is already a mess and getting worse. I'm amazed by the number of people that seem to think that uninsured people are being turned away from American emergency rooms, and that's why we need government involvement. Truth is, no one really knows the full impact of the plan, and won't for a few more years. It's definitely scared the crap out of a lot of businesses, and if it works as well as most government programs, it's going to continue being a mess.

I meant to tell you, I'd trade a spotless truck for your driveway any day. No offense meant to the firefighters among us.

Referencing the view from your land and the comment you made in B. Turner's 30,000 mile Adrian Monk thread.

If I could just kill off a few relatives, I could relocate to a more appealing area. Hmmm ... criss cross, Pete?

Once, sort of. There's an actual registration process when you first take possession to transfer the title, and then there are annual fees to keep the registration current. Taxes depend on the state. Some states only require a minimal fee per year to keep the registration current, but some also lump a property tax onto the annual bill.

But does it take a long time to renew or is that just the initial time ?

Transfers of title and annual renewals usually both can be accomplished online and the tags show up within a week or two. Usually, this would cover a new vehicle from a dealer who already holds an existing title.

A new registration (birth certificate), like mine coming from the manufacturer (not dealer) and never having been registered by anyone ever, requires VIN verification and extensive grab-assery. Plus paying the sales tax that was not inlcued in the invoice purchase price from the builder. But I did leave the DMV with registration and a license plate.

Online renewal is very easy and fast in my state. I have my new decals in 2-3 days.

It's the visits to the office that can really bog down. Anything out of the ordinary turns into an experiment for the clerk, and I've learned that providing them with a copy of the relevant state statute isn't always well received. At least they installed webcams so you can see what number is being served. I felt like Dick Tracy pulling up the feed on my phone.

What's Canadian about spending literally two minutes online and getting the decals in the mail? I get renewal notices six weeks in advance, so it's not worth driving to the office, no matter how close it may be.

Pretty sure you can't do ICBC Autoplan coverage online

All I have to do is provide my privately selected auto insurance company name and policy number to the state during the registration renewal process. Other than that, they aren't interested in my auto insurance policy as long as it meets their standard of coverage.

"All drivers in B.C. must have Basic Autoplan. It gives you the minimum coverage you need."

In the U.S., the state mandates that insurance is in force, and the state sets the minimum standard of coverage, but we aren't forced us to use a state run system ... yet.

Um, you missed the point. Annual renewals for registration is a couple minutes online, electronic payment, it shows up in your mailbox. No need to go anywhere. Insurance is just insurance. Nothing to do other than provide your plociy number on the reg for, I believe. And if you get pulled over, show the bronze your proof of coverage card from your insurance company.

One exception, smog inspection and certificate every two years in California. Need to take it in to a certified inspection shop. That usually only takes 20 mins, they certify it electronically with the DMV, and you just enter some numbers on your electronic registration renewal form when submitting it.
