Oh god. Did they do an MRI? My dad will be 80 in 2 weeks. Every day I'm worried he's going to set the house on fire.

Boat same one I'm in--mine fell on his butt in FLA over Christmas (an inexplicable loss of balance) then just recently slipped on a rug and fell in his lady friend's bathroom. He's also going to be 89 this December...good luck with your Dad Oz

My dad still works everyday at the ranch, SO many things can fuck you up at the ranch, every machine could maim or kill you! This was his latest mistake, trying to cut firewood into these perfect pieces for the stove, he was working on a 36" buzzsaw, powered by the pto from our 100hp tractor, with a carbide tipped blade. A fraction of an inch more and his finger would have been gone. The blade took off his knuckle cap, and just hit the bone, taking off his tendon. Had surgery to replace tendon, pretty much succesful.

Just had a thought for a new thread.

    Dumb shit our parents do.

Given the spread between what 16 yo punks think is dumb (OMG, grounded me for setting the school on fire) versus issues we are dealing with for our aging parents (OMG, dad almost burned down the house because he had a grease fire in the barbecue under the patio cover), it could be kind of amusing, and perhaps even eye-opening for the whippersnappers.

Glad he's home. How close do you live to your parents? One thing I'm thankful for us I'm only a half hour away from my dads, when he cut his finger he just wrapped it up and drove to my house so I could drive him to ER.

Dumb shit my dad is about to do:

Drive to Yellowstone at the busiest time of the year, with no reservations. "I'll just drive until I find a cheap room."

I tried to explain the crowds, distances, and cost, but no dice. He might take one of my guidebooks and maps, but I doubt it.

    I can't wait for the post-trip debrief.

Glad to hear your dad is ok.

When he was 71, my dad had developed a nerve problem in his leg and fell, cracked a rifle stock and got a bloody nose out hunting. After that he just walked 1/4 mile to a stand that was well placed. I wasn't on TW in 2012 much since he had cancer and passed on in October. Worst year of my life, and yet some how one of the best just to be there for him.

Holy crap. It's in my back yard and I won't go near the valley in the summer, only high country, and even for that you need a reservation a year in advance.

He's going to be eaten by a bear. A well-dressed, fat bear.
