to me, yours looks better because they drew it up when they didn't care about looks and were laser focused on quality, durability and dependability.

you haven’t even ridden in a fourth gen, nor even understood the difference between the SR and other grades, but you’re spending weeks passing hundreds of comments worth of judgement about it.

    just stop already.

I thought you were talking about a Tacoma, not a Sienna.

Anybody doing any serious towing with a Gen 4?

I pulled about 5000lbs the other day in a trash trailer. Did great but was city speeds.

Nothing but love for all tacos. I had a 3rd gen and now a 4th gen taco. I loved the 3rd for its simplicity and reliability. It looked great and was just solid. But the 4th hybrid does drive better and is a better daily with the added tech. That means a few more things that could go wrong. I just stacked up on the extended warranty in case…

That is fair. A personal acquaintance and someone I worked with at a volunteer event last week said what they read in forums, Reddit and some Facebook groups were very different than actually looking up recalls, TSBs and some hands on with the vehicles. Doing some actual shopping the one found they're not as expensive as all the Internet arm chair directors had them believe.
I don't know what you mean by serious. Some at capacity bed full and trailering so far have been impressive relative to the history, but it is not like the GM 3500 @ work and while very powerful, a whole lot of towing much weight at freeway speeds like the two axle trailer the company has is probably best for a 3/4 ton class.

Having had several pickups and later model work use and rentals I consider the gen 4 as can do what prior generation models can't but it is still not same as the full-sized with diesel engine models.

Edit: This is for sure. Having had the prior Toyota V6 models, the 4th gen has power and torque with staying power while my past models would scream in pain or be going slower.

Serious towing as in towing a 4000 lb travel trailer over Donner or anywhere in the Rockies. Not just towing it once but spending a couple of months...or more...towing at weight and altitude.
I know it has lots of snap but will it hold up to really working for a living?

Working for a living is why I bought mine but I don't tow a 4000 pound trailer over passes near constant. It is still a mid-sized pickup. While it can blow by the V6 models, that's still not the same as a full sized turbo diesel model.

Agreed. I’ve owned a 1st gen and a 3rd gen and the 4th gen is a superior truck. But I ain’t gonna lie, I loved my 1st Gen 1996 Tacoma SR5 manual transmission extended cab 4x4. It seemed so big back then with the stock 31x10.5 tires, ground clearance, etc. But next to the 4th ge. It’s so to tiny! Still loved it though but I love the 4th gen

I don't have a 4th gen yet, but have driven my brother's extensively- I did have a 3rd gen at one point, and we had a 2nd gen in our family. The 3rd gen was mostly a warmed-over 2nd gen with a more rev-happy V6 and schitzo transmission, I still liked them though.

This is the first REAL upgrade in two decades, and it's a huge shift forward. Benefitting from being designed on a platform that underpins expensive SUVs and an engine that supposedly has ~50% different parts from its car counterpart to handle truck duty, to me, it's a killer package. Unless Toyota has all of a sudden decided to put reliability on the back burner, going by history, I presume this truck will be very solid once it gets through the first two or so model years.

It would be suicide to sacrifice their legendary reliability status that’s world renowned. Especially in today’s economic uncertainty.
Turbo engines aren’t new especially for Toyota. Supra anyone? BMW’s have been using turbos in their engines for every single line up of their cars without issues for the last 20 years. My 10 year old 2015 BMW X5 with twin scroll turbo still drives like new.

Only people that are worried about turbos and 4 cylinder engines are people who have been living under rock with their 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas being the only automobile they have ever experienced.

Rest assured this platform will be reliable as Toyotas previous platforms.

    Some of Toyota's most legendary engines are turbo. E.g. 1JZ, 2JZ, 1HD-FTE, 1VD-FTV

That’s the way I feel about the 4th Gen, eliminated the access cab from the lineup, crappy color choices, rear bumper is butt ugly. To each his own!
