That's not bad! The place I got them done from wanted 1600 for the labor and then another 600 to do install the gears.

    5.29s installed.
MT, 34.5 inch tires, full steel armor.

    I increased mpg by 3. In 6th gear I was doing 70mph at 2600RPM.

I'd do it again 10/10 times and haven't really put them to a full test. This was a well needed mod!

Any questions or tests you'd like me to try?

    I'm debating 4.88 vs 5.29.
I'm on 35/12.5/18 rubber and she's mostly a street queen with some deer lease and beach off roading...so nothing extreme.
Your RPM at 70 is what has me cautious, as 2600 seems high for cruising in that range. We have 70mph zones here in VA, and often cruise 75-80mph in most instances. This is a tough choice.

Lately been very interested in Regear and leaning more towards 5.29 based on this thread and Youtube video by Maxx Powell. 70 mph with 2600rpm doesnt sound bad. Granted I’m on stock gear, the engine feels smooth at 70+ even at 3000 rpm with 33s driving on highway in high altitude Northern NM.

Auto here, and ideally I think maintaining 2200-2300 RPM seems the sweet spot. I'm tuned, and it does make power at 2200RPM on the hwy.

Ahhh yes you're correct. I missed the MT in his posts.
The 5.29 are quite appealing, I just don't want to over gear it.

I'll post more details later (at work currently) but...

    - The lower gears have less lag than they use to. Now, the feeling of going gear 2 to 4 to 6 has similar feeling from what the 1,2,3,4,5,6 felt like previously .

    - I went from around 14.5 mpg to around 17-17.5 mpg (so far I've driven 60 or so miles)

    - It feels like stock! I felt like I was a gear and a half behind but now feels like it should.

Again, I'm running 6MT, 315/70/r17, Full steel armor including skids, and weight such as decked drawer system and camper shell.

I could see installing 4.88 on MT with same Tires but less weight but I'm pretty happy with my decision given my build.

Ordered up my 5.29s just now. Zuk will be doing the setup, and facilitate the cryo process the gears will receive. Unfortunately I will be working in California for 3 weeks starting Nov. 25th. Install will likely occur sometime mid Decemberish.

Just dropped my truck off to get 5.29's put in. Should get it back Tuesday to start break in. I have an AT sitting on 34/10.5/17 KO2's with an OVtune 1.04 flash on it. I'll try to get some data to help contribute when I get it back.

Thanks Zuk! Looking forward to completing this project with you. Praying I made the right choice with 5.29s. If not then I see 35” tires coming sooner then I thought, along with more hacking, and trimming.

Gears are installed. I got into 6th gear!!!

Honestly. The biggest difference is in how smooth I’m shifting. I need to drive it more, but I’ll post up some feedback.
