Well it’s the new prototype stuff. But essentially yes. The magnetic stuff is in much larger pieces. This is more of a window cling style material, only thicker.

My only issue with this stuff is my buddies truck gets dirt around the edges and it has lightly buffed/sanded a fine line around the contour of the armor. Specifically the top edge.
Have you seen this happen at all?
I like the idea. makes a lot of sense to me on the trail.

Front done this weekend. Took Bro and I about 6 working hours. This is not that difficult, but two man job for sure. Two tips:
    1. Big brass punch to tap axles out of third member. There are flats on the inboard CV housings. Same going in. One pulls or pushes on axle and one hammers.
    2. Removing side gear from third member. Us long screwdriver from drivers side and pop the end of the shaft. You can just get in next to the spider gear cross shaft. This is done when you are transfer the passenger side extension tube on to the new third member.

The new stuff won’t have this issue. It’s like window cling. You just pull it off and clean and reinstall. There isn’t any “pressure” like the magnets. So no reason for the dirt to be abrasive. But I’ve only had it for like 2 weeks now.

Although. If you don’t have common sense, it’ll be harder to install lol

Flashed the 5.29 tune from @OVTune and its pretty solid! Speed limiter gone, shift points seem pretty solid. Still have a lot of testing to do but so far very happy.

As far as anyone following along with my diff locker indicator issue. They are pulling open the diff again this week to quadruple check everything. Nitro thinks the bearings need to be seated better but the shop says they have had the diff out several times and everything is installed perfectly (and I believe them).

If everything is installed correctly they are going to machine enough off the position sensor to put the clearance back to where it was with the stock gears.

Just had 5.29's put in my 2017. At about 350 miles and getting a pretty good "whine" on deceleration or when off the gas. Much more prevalent at higher speeds. Drives smooth, no vibration or grinding sounds at all. Get on the gas and its gone. Tried scanning through the 121 pages in this thread, but didn't see anything regarding this. Read some other info saying aftermarket gears can be noisier then OEM(?)

Oh. I forgot to update here. 5.29’s in. Got... hmm. 120/30 miles on it. At first it was kinda rough cause cause I flashed the new 5.29 OVTune, but now it’s settling nicely. It’s so awesome to be able to push the pedal and go. Very nice upgrade and definitely worth the money.

I to have slight “airplane whine” on decel but I’m not worried. My shop said they would warranty anything or any issues. (They good people) pretty excited to be able to mash the gas pedal down and see how she really drives here in about 2-3 more heat and cool cycles.

I know this has been discussed and answered... but, what temps are ya'll running at highway speeds? Hit 200+/- several times running 60-65mph. Finished my 500 and fluid change. Fluid was extremely clean and drain bolt had hardly any shavings to my surprise. Still running pretty high temps even after fresh fluid. ECGS said these temps were considered normal. Any thoughts?

FYI my gears seem to be very quite. No whine on deceleration, but hard to tell with MT's. On a good note, I actually enjoy driving my truck again :woot:

Just got my gears and bearings back form Cryoheat in Oceanside, CA. Micro polished gears and cryo treated bearings and gears. Josh there sounded tired every time I talked to him on the phone. They reduced there employees to only one person in the shop at a time and multiple shifts a day, every day. My hats off to them.

I’ll install these, most likely, when/if Constuction gets shut down in Los Angeles.

Eye candy for now. Be safe everyone.

Ho everyone long time lurker first time posting and going through all these post is super time consuming I just had my 5.29s put in yesterday. I'm not sure if I trully feel a difference in the gears or maybe I havent driven it enough just did the first 50 miles im running 285/70/r17 bfg k02 on 3 inch lift im in Georgia, and going on 985 for those of you who know is some what rolling hills and im sitting at 3400 rpm at 70 going up a tiny slop thats feels just like my stock gears or is that normal i got then to solve that issue but maybe I am misunderstanding what these gears are trully meant to do getting only 14 mpgs combined was orginaly getting 13.5 so it went up a bit and i have a rtt and some rock sliders and a prinsus rack and awning but ill be adding a lot more weight in the near future so if any one running a overland setup with 34s can chime in and see what your avg rpm, and mpg is id appreciate it
