Finally got around to driving the truck with 5.29’s. Had 4.88’s when I was on 35’s. It was OK. But after going to 37’s, they definitely weren’t cutting it. All I can say is WOW, It woke the truck back up now. When I accelerate from a dig, the back end lifts up and she go’s. Not perfect, but more manageable with the large rubber.

Got my diffs back today. Hoopers also fixed the leak in my rear arb, bonded seal failure.

This truck was waiting to get gears at Hoopers rear end in Sunland, ca.

    Dirt Kings long travel.

There will never be a day I hear "Dang these gears were such a waste, they suck and I regret it."

You saw how many people are in the groupbuy, just hop in before we close it (which is soon btw). You will love yourself for doing it, and your truck will love you too.

I asked a local shop how much they would charge to regear my diffs if I took them out of the truck and brought them to them. I was told $1250 for the Nitro Gear master install kit, and $400 per axle to install. Does that seem awfully high to anyone else?

$1250 for gears AND Master kits is not terrible.
$400 an axle is also not terrible.

So $2k for gears and install is not bad.

2k sounds reasonable if they do 100% of the labor. Is there something difficult about Toyota axles that makes it more labor intensive?

Not that I'm aware of but I've never regeared Toyota axles. That said, $800 is probably among the lowest quotes I've seen posted. Most places I have seen want around $750-$1000 an axle.

I'm getting my gears installed on Thursday. I was quoted roughly $1,800 for Nitro 5.29 front and rear. Parts and labor

Got nitro 5.29’s a few months back. Gear hums when I let off the gas to slow down at approximately 40mph. Anyone have thoughts if this will have any negative effects on the gears themselves in the long run?

Aside from the OEM Front and Rear Pinion Seals, do we also need to get the OEM Tacoma Rear E-Locker electrical connector (82824-0K060)?

Talking with Jon and Chase @ ECGS now. Ordering front and rear 5.29’s (REM rear) with an ARB front locker. Getting assembled third members and will swap them out myself.
