Would you replace them regardless of mileage simply due to it being torn apart already? I have ~70k miles on this truck.... I dont know enough about service life of these parts, but you're probably right. I will inquire what the additional costs are.

Most recommend replacement during a regear if they have more than 10k

Just got word from them-- the install kit gets new shims and they reuse the ring gear bolts. Going to get a quote for the bearings

It’s a bit weird/worrisome for a shop’s standard protocol to be reusing ring gear bolts and bearings all the time. What about seals and crush sleeves?

I just verified that the install kit includes new bearings + shims but I guess they assumed I knew that-- which I guess I should have (?)

If it comes with bearings, it comes with ring gear bolts. So that doesn't make sense.

There are install kits that include everything (shims, crush sleeve, seals, ring gear bolts, pinion nut) WITHOUT bearings. So the fact they are reusing ring gear bolts sounds fishy. Any install kit you get will have ring gear bolts in them, so why are they reusing?

Toyota regears appear to be their bread and butter, is it possible they've assembled their own install kits from wholesalers and skip the ring gear bolts?

Reading this last page of comments has made me slightly concerned. I have an install appointment in a couple weeks. Your comments made me reach out. Here is what they said. Not 100% sure I believe it.

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
FYI, not all bearing kits/install kits come with ring gear bolts. Nitro doesn’t, Yukon does. Also, it is perfectly fine to reuse ring gear bolts, but they must be thoroughly cleaned to get all the old loctite and oil off.

This place has the tools and the tallent (ghostbusters) and one of the best places hands down. If you can - use them for gear work.

Not me, but i would like to. What does this modification entail? Someone with a computer? Or a hard mounted device?

Just started looking. Rough country has a plug n play module. About all I’ve found so far.

Hypertech or rough country. Comes with a harness that plugs in between the cluster and the truck’s harness, you program it via a computer for the correction factor of the tires (no need to include gearing info at all), and then it stays plugged into the truck. It just multiplies the speed signal by the correction factor to speed up or slow down the speedometer and odometer forever, unless you unplug it which it then reverts to stock.

Any benefit? Does it determine shift points? If it just fixes Speedo…. Im good. WAZE gives me my accurate speed. Trying to find out what a corrected speedo corrects other than the speed if anything. It rides perfect so prob won’t mess w it.

Another benefit is your trip distance will be accurate. I'm anal though and like this to be exact.

Been on 5.29 gears for 4 years now and still fucking love them. Just ordered a pro charger kit today. Hopefully install in 2 weeks. Not sure if I'll have to put taller gears in yet but should be fun!
