I pretty much prepped for 35s and figured it would be easier to back than forward.

Not sure why you are convincing us that there is no limiter or governor.

It’s a matter of when and what causes it that we are investigating.

Hello Tacomaworld, I ordered Nitro 5.29 gears and a Harrop E-Locker for my 2017 Toyota Tacoma Trd Pro and I’m getting them installed this Thursday and Friday. I’m super excited! I’m running KM3 285/70/117 I have a Lo-Pro Bumper w/winch, Rock Sliders made by C4, I also have a leer top on on my Pro. I hope that this will be a good matchup with what I’m running and I’ll be happy with the driving experience? I don’t like how the transmission hunts for gears and hope this is a fix for 3 gen owners? Anyhow can’t wait until there installed !

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

I paid $1400’ish for the gears & install kits w/ solid spacers. I have a shop install them for $400.

If you get the fully built members, I’d go buy a nice floor jack, stands, torque wrench, etc., and do the install yourself. You’ll have all those tools for future jobs then as well.

I’ll have some mpg data for 33s in a couple weeks. I’ll update the original posts with this data. So you’ll have mpg metrics for stock tires and 33s with 5.29s

What's your wheel weight tho? Those wheels look beef compared to others.

The wheels and tires you see now are a 35 bias ply. The 33s that I’ll be using are a General Grabber ATX wrapped around SCS F5s.

EDIT: Trepadors are not great for road trips and I don’t want to waste them.

Seems about right for a shop that does a lot of them. I was around $2900 for 4.88 including getting the ECGS bushing replaced while they were in there. I don't think there is any additional labor to add the front locker but you gotta add in those parts so you are getting into the upper $3K territory.

Does your rig’s trans still hunt for gears after the install?

It still drops to 4th sometimes but is night and day difference. In the 1st month, my truck saw more use of 5th and 6th than the previous 2+ years I've had the truck. If you are a flatlander than I doubt you would be downshifting much at all but I'm at 6K elevation and truck gets to run up the Ike Gauntlet and handled it much better even with 4 guys and loaded camping gear. The best mod I've done. I used to be able to tell the weight of the tires vs stock, now the truck feels lighter than it did when stock.

Is nitro only option for 5.29, and how reliable are they, had a local installer here stating that they are not as good as everyone says and had some failures on them, just curious if he is full of it or there are alternatives to nitro?
