My rule of thumb is to jump at least one full turn when regearing, just to make it worthwhile.

    So, 3.91 + 1 = 4.91 or 4.88

    4.30 + 1 = 5.30 or 5.29

Does anyone know the gear ratios of the 5 speed vs the 6 speed automatic and manual? I really think the closer ratios of the 6 speed manual would have been perfect with the 2TR. As it is, the ratios are spread too far apart and when going up steep hills you really have to rev it so if doesn’t fall on its face when you shift gears.

You’re right, I was talking about the 2.7 Tacoma’s only. Sorry for the confusion

5.29s are in! Impressions after a very short 40 miles are why did these trucks not come with these.

I’m still rocking 33s and man I already love it! 35s I’ll prob wish they made a 5.71 (said totally tongue in cheek). I can’t wait to finish up the break in and get on them. 4lo is something I am greatly looking forward to as well.

More props to @thefatkid once again!

Did you shorten your wheel base or is the hc that makes it look that way?

Just the HC makes it look like that.
As far as I know I put the axle in the exact same spot when I welded in my leaf brackets. I’ve been known to fuck up a time or two though.

Edit: You made me go back and look at some older pics.
Looks like the HC makes it look like that. Here’s a pice from before the bumper.

Thanks! Really hoping this turns out well since it seems hard to find much feedback on MTs with 5.29s

Well best of luck and safe travels on your journey. I was only 20 miles from where I installed mine so only stopped once. I feel for you. But man are you going to love it.

You are driving that far to have your truck worked on? Damn...I’m glad they are local to me because I have surely taken it for granted.

My wife and daughter decided to ride along, so we’re making a mini vacation out of it. Already have a route planned for the break in period.

Yeah, but it’s not solely for the gears. I have friends in the area, wife has been wanting to go to NC/TN and daughter is begging to go to Dollywood.
It’s all part of my diabolical plan.

@sherwoods_Fleet just did his in GA. Been in contact with him getting feedback throughout his break in period. His initial impressions have been positive on the MT, great news for us in the minority. You’ll be done soon, so I’m sure you’ll find out soon enough first hand.

Lol. They are good - done work on three of my trucks, but that’s still a long ass drive. Your plan makes way more sense. Enjoy. And enjoy the heat we are having, I’m sure it will remind you of home.

Yeah, coming up I-85. We’re in north GA for tonight. Got a ~5 hour drive to Raleigh tomorrow.
    Appreciate the offer though!

Not sure what time you plan to be in Raleigh, but you’ll want to get through Charlotte before 7am. Traffic is terrible between 0630-0900.
