Guess not...well I'm an MT with a FWC looking for more pulling power. Would rather move to 5.29 than the baby steps of 4.30 to 4.88 but a little concerned about the super low gearing in some cases with the MT. I guess will have to think about it and see...

I'm on OV Tune 1.04 and just got 5.29s, running 35's with no real added weight. Truck doesn't feel that impressive. Goes through gears kinda fast and just doesn't feel as peppy as I thought it would. Granted I am taking it easy till I break it in. 1st and 2nd seems better but 3rd kinda falls flat. On the highway I feel like I have to press the pedal down more now for the truck to get going.

Could it be tune related? My truck has been down for the last 8 months getting built for long travel so I haven't been able to update to the newer tunes.

64 pages of nothing but how good 5.29s feel....3 posts in 1 day saying they didn’t make much difference. What is going on here?

To be clear I'm on a very dated OV tune. Will update to a current version as soon as I have some time.

granted i’m in the break in process and haven’t put my foot in the petal at all in fear of not breakin stuff in right so my post was likely premature but i was just wondering if i was the only one to feel this way in this early phase

I’m not sure why tune version would matter as a lot of the guys here are geared and not tuned specifically for them. You said in the other thread that you didn’t have your truck for 8 months prior to regearing, what did you drive during that 8 months? Just curious if you’re coming out of a corvette and the Tacoma just seems sluggish after that regardless of gears.

I think it is tune related. Got spoiled with 2.0 Wait til 5.29 gear specific tune gets release.

And for sure 5.29 is an improvement over stock, but It didn’t feel it was a big improvement because I came from the tune.

You won’t regret it. I don’t. It drives a lot better then stock gears.

And yea I’m waiting on TT setup from OV tune too

Scratching mine too, also scheduled for next week. Was just surprised to see people not seeing results all of the sudden. Oh well, I’m committed.

I've been on OVtune the whole time. I swapped to 5.29. It holds 6th gear and accelerates in 6th gear BEFORE the gears although only very slightly.

I'm on 33s, 3" Icon lift, Sliders, Half bumper w/ winch. I imagine stock tires ect would be better.

NOW with 5.29s I can accelerate up hill while still maintaining 6th gear. I have maintained around the same mileage however the truck has a lot better hold of gears. Still need more torque "in my opinion" so I'll be doing turbos or a supercharger when they become available.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Lol...somebody better make sense of this!!!

The transmission compensated for that as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts. It will shift sooner and lower than before but it won’t blow your socks off. When you get offroad and in hilly situations or high speed interstate travel you will see it the most.

Since the first release and every updated. Running the 4.88 beta right now. Too much in my opinion but its starting to settle. Truck runs a lot better even with the stock tune and 5.29s. More like it should. Try flashing back once and you'll see what I mean if you remember the truck before the mods.

i’m on 34s (KO2s) and on OV 1.05 running 87! i have noticed my mpg has gone up to heights it’s NEVER reached since my first mod to this truck which was 265s. i’m seeing 19mpg on my commute to work where i normally see 16 to 16.9mpg so with that alone i’m not mad!

is it safe to assume most of you with gears and OV are running the 91 tune?
