All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I think I am going to have to. I don’t know if I trust anyone in the ATL area to put mine in.

I recently got my 5.29’s installed on Wednesday so I’m in the initial stages as well. But I’m also running the ovtune 1.05 and my truck seems to do the same as yours, accelerating from a stop it’ll go through the first three gears pretty quick shifting from one to another at like 2,000 rpms is all. But I noticed if I turn on ect power mode it likes to hold itself in the gear till about 2500-2700 before shifting into the next. I’m assuming it’s because of the tune I guess but I’m not sure. We’ll have to see when ov tune releases a 5.29 specific tune

Exactly how mine is be having. However after driving it more for the last few days I've noticed it will hold gears longer between shifts if I give it a little more gas. But I don't want to give it too much since Im still in break in period. Hoping for better results after break in and 4.88 specific tune is loaded.

Since most of us are over geared now, the truck is still shifting at the same point which is a lower RPM. Added torque it’s not too noticeable IMO. The 4.88 2.0 beta Mat just put out helps raise the shift points. Careful tho cause it is ramped up this time around. Feels like I have launch command in the truck. Make sure you do the two full pulls right away. IE second gear to about 6500 rpms twice. Second time I loaded it after I tested the normal with 4.88 tune I swapped back right away. Seems better doing the two full pulls right away in 2nd.

Maybe I should finish my break in on 1.04 before I load 4.88 since I can't do full pulls right now anyway.

From what I understand you don’t have to be hard on the gas. Just let it go through the range of rpms to set the trims quick.

I loaded the 4.88 tune last night and got about 30 miles or so on it and it drives better, tip in is also noticeable, but that doesn’t bother me.

Just the tip! Just for a second! Just to see how it feels! Of the skinny gogo pedal of course!

Lol it’s when you gently step on the gas and the truck lunges forward, with the tune usually it “tips in” harder than normal.

Oh and by the way I’m enjoying the 4.88 tune A LOT better then i thought, it feels like the gears finally came alive, for me at least.

An example, 4wd Low 1st gear at 2 mph, the "base" tune works fine because the tip-in is not too sensitive.

In contrast, 4wd Low 1st gear at 2 mph, the "performance" tune is a disaster because the tip-in is way too jumpy. The throttle is all over the place and the truck surges back and forth with the throttle (because the throttle is too sensitive - the electronic fly-by-wire gas pedal can be digitally adjusted by the OVTune, etc., because there's no throttle cable, only electrical wires leading to the computer)

Now, if you were in 2wd High in 1st gear at the drag strip, you'll definitely want the "performance" tune to get the 0-60 start off the line.

Think, Base tune for off-road. Performance tune for the street...

To elaborate further, someone from Sacramento may use the performance map while daily driving the truck, but when it comes to 4wheeling on the Rubicon trail, they'll load the base map for that trip specifically. Unlike the Euro spec KTM motos, we don't have the option to cycle through maps on the fly (as of yet @OVTune ).

the 4.88 tune is the beta thing that isn’t available on the normal software where you would load a different tune right? i saw something about ppl posting you had to download something else to get to it and then load it, but either way it’s still not refined since it’s not officially rolled out by OV correct?

i tried that performance tune before and regular D and that thing is way to sensitive of a petal so i don’t see how anyone uses that for a daily, i also feel like it would eat through more gas because it’s got so much pep in it basically it like stomping on the petal every time you come off a stop instead of gradually accelerating.... or am i wrong and that’s just a “feeling” i get? idk

Correct it’s still beta, but it’s still the best tune for our gears. Link if you’re interested: https://www.ovtuned.com/pages/2-0-public
