Whats everyone paying for gears and labor? Theres a shop in Denver that has a special for $2700 parts/labor. Seems like a great deal to me. They had a video on youtube of tacotwans or running4tacos i believe

Not terrible that’s about the going rate but we recommend @thefatkid for gears as he is in Denver.

Lonestar Ring & Pinion out of Katy. They got really good reviews. Shop mostly does domestics, but said he usually gets about 10 Toyotas come in yearly. When I called Nitro gears, asked for installs shop in Houston. They sent me to Lonestar Ring & Pinion.

Also, there is Gulf Coast Crawl shop. Almost had them do install, but they use Yukon and G2 for R&P swaps. When I called Lonestar, he said he uses Nitro. If I'm not mistaken, only will do Nitro gears. Since Nitro seems to cater to Toyota owners, gave Lonestar a shot. Just got back my Taco this past Monday. So far, so good. No whine or noises whatsoever.

The website sucks, if you can go visit them in person. I’ve had good experiences with them and they seem to have a solid reputation in the overland community. Here’s a recent video of the shop:https://youtu.be/oWwTbCUoVNk

Made contact. Quick response. Got a quote with 5.29s and an air locker. Not cheap but great value package. I am deeply stewing on it.

Will get my 5.29 done there (Altitude Offroad). He said he has done about 20 3rd Gens so far and only about 2 were 4.88. Rest were all 5.29

For all of this I would PM him and talk to him. He can do the gears several different ways. For me I dropped the gears off and he built them with new cores and when he was done we swapped them. He had the truck for maybe 2-3 hours total.

As far as pricing, he won’t be beat by anybody and he’s a genuinely good guy.

I learned about him through word of mouth, almost everyone I talked to in Colorado and even shops recommended him.

After dealing with him personally he is the only one I trust and recommend. He’s been doing differentials for a long time and he’s like a 20 year Toyota Master Tech. He offroads in a Toyota himself and knows these trucks better than anybody here.

He recently formalized himself in this thread.

Still trying to get some good information on my 5.29 install with 285/75/16’s on stock TRD PRO. Four wheel drive is awesome, I can actually drive down the highway and my truck doesn’t downshift. I’m getting 18.3 MPG but those are not the best numbers I can get you because I enjoy driving my truck now and it’s awesome to get on the freeway and not feel I’m impending traffic. Long trip coming up so I will post my before and after videos of the drive so y’all can see
