Do you happen to have the part numbers for those? Is it the same seal for both front and rear diff?

Solid spacer is needed more for the rear as you're more likely to smack the rear pinion flange on a rock than you would for the front. Solid spacer in front diff will strengthen it, but isn't absolutely necessary.

Rear pinion seal is different than front. Your local Toyota dealer ought to be able to get you the correct part #'s.

So I’ve been slowly reading this thread. Haven’t truly been keeping up with it... looking into gears and a front locker. Trucks a DCLB OR with front and rear steel bumpers, full steel skids, sliders, and 285’s.. trucks a daily driver and driving about 60-80 miles a day.. should I be shopping for 4.88’s or 5.29’s?...

On the 5.29? I want to say if you have a MT, for sure. If you have an AT, for sure.

    :D

Now the front locker is a more of a: Do you do brutal rough driving?

Yea I have a AT. At the moment I do decent trails but just figure while it’s all open to spend the extra bucks now then later...

Kinda why I made that statement. I'm looking at the whole package, air locker, 5.29's, dual compressor, manifold, switches, tax, LABOR, etc.... $4500 TOTAL installed. I have the money. I COULD do it myself but don't have the time and outdoors now......rainy....no lift....I'm 61.5 years old.......so I say wait, my truck is too new...........

    Some interesting numbers on gearing.

Stock 3rd Gen V6 AT Gearing
    Axle: 3.90
    Transmission (6th gear) .58
    Effective gearing: 2.26

    I'm currently in a 2017 Nissan Titan, 5.6 V8 7 spd AT
    Axle: 2.94
    Transmission (7th): .77
Effective gearing: 2.26 (exactly the same as a 3rd gen Tacoma, and it has 33 inch tires stock)

Now the 3rd Gen Taco with a gear swap
    Axle: 4.88
    Trans: .58
    Effective: 2.83

    Axle: 5.29
    trans: .58
    Effective: 3.06

EDITED: I had the manual transmisson numbers in here
    2nd Gen V6 Taco
Axle: 3.73 (some may be different, most are 3.73)
    Trans (5th): .72
    Effective:2.68

So a stock V6 AT 2nd Gen is actually geared pretty close to the 4.88 gears in a 3rd gen
