    It’s interesting that when I first posted this thread I thought we would be the minority and have very few folks interested in gearing this low.

    It’s nice to see that this actually became a mega thread thanks to all of the contributions from everyone.

    does anybody have a scangauge or other way to monitor trans temp? whats the difference before and after the new gears going uphill? I've see mine 220F going easy at 60mph at 6% grades on 3rd gear, around 4k rpm. just curious. I'm just waiting for my gears to come in. Thanks

    In-line tire calibration, BFG All terrains 285/75/16.....top coming soon
    Well I’m super happy with my truck now. I installed 5.29’s from ECGS. The drive is so much better and I don’t have the downshifting any more. My TRD PRO is stock plus 285/75/17’s this is my MPG driving in and around town with normal freeway driving

    Well I read the 4.88 and 5.29 threads in one day. I have a MT so I hope 5.29s isn't a bad call, hard to justify going from 4.30 to 4.88. my ride will be a heavy girl by the end of month so I guess it's time to start getting quotes! Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!

    I was told NOT to use synthetic gear oil with my new 5:29 Nitro’s... any idea why?

    They must be confused. Or maybe they are talking about the first 500 miles. This kind of thing makes me doubt their expertise. Not saying they don't know the mechanical end, they could be the best in the world. Anyway read Nitro's website. Specifically the break in procedure.

    My guess is certain LSD manufacturers have recommendations against synthetic gear oil without LSD FM additives and this installer is spreading this advice widely.....

    ***more info*** I just found out it is because of the ARB AIR LOCKERS. ARB requires non synthetic due to potential “o ring” corrosion?(Validating now)

    I have read this as well or similar. Again some confusion. READ the ARB web site. They only recommend not using lubes with limited slip additives for possible seal compatibility issues. They do not recommend against synthetic. Any 75W-XX OR -XXX will be some form of synthetic

    ECGS recommends non-synthetic lucas 85w140 unless you live in the extremely cold north. Personally, I run non-synthetic valvoline of similar viscosity. I don’t like Lucas, mostly because of all the miracle bottles found in the auto parts store, and all the money spent on those gear displays showing how sticky it was. Not sure if they exist anymore, but I sure remember them.
