I had a bearing self destruct many moons ago. The debris was a bit different. Oddly I never heard or felt it but the front seal started leaking.

Small clue maybe? I changed my factory differentials oil yesterday at 4K, was pretty black.
Rear plug, I did smudge it.
    20191005_154607.jpg
Left is MT oil, right is the rear differential oil
    20191005_165804.jpg
The front differential oil was similar.

The front shouldn’t be as bad if I’m not using 4wd right?

I’ve put about 250 miles on the truck since upgrading to 5.29s. Here’s my advice:

Do it. Definitely should be the first upgrade for any AT 3rd Gen.

Does the differential and engine oil drain plugs have magnets on them from factory or did you guys buy it separately (after mkt.)?

Preparing for my 5.29 install and the follow-up diff. oil change.

No it shouldn’t since it’s not under load. How does the front look?

Well, the shop that installed the gears tightened the front drain plug too tight so I ended up stripping the 10mm Allen hole...enjoyed that a bunch

Took it in today to have Toyota get the stripped plug out and replace with a new one. Fluid looked good

Dang that sucks. I noticed over time that those plugs lock up, I struggled to get mine off the last time I changed the oil, and since I don't use impact tools, I have no idea how it was on so tight.

Yes, the install shop is about a mile east of the store. Tell Joe its Andy's truck that's being built to be driven around the world next year. Haven't dealt with Jon
