They are very well known in the Las Vegas area and said bring it back if I have any concerns. They average 2 regears a week. I am currently running the stock size tires, so hopefully it’ll go away when I upgrade...

Currently about 2,500 miles. No doubt the best mod yet.
I’m about 1,000 miles into a 5,000 miles round trip. Was planning on towing and reporting back in this thread, but plan changed slightly. Next trip will be 2,500 mile tow.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I am picking up my truck today. I will post my thoughts later as well.

So i have been running 4.88's with OVtune and i am still not satisfied with the way the truck drives! I am debating to upgrade to 5.29's but i am wondering if the cost will be worth it? I am running 34" Coopers, Demello front bumper and winch,Pelfrybilt HC with swingout and dual jerry can mount, Mobtown steel skids all 3. RCI aluminum gas tank skid,RTT, Fridge mounted in bed! Would the 5.29's be enough of a benefit to justify the cost for another regear?

Is it still hunting for gears or is it just dropping to 4th more than you want?

I got the same setup as you, almost the same exact parts. I put 5.29s in yesterday. It’s a massive improvement.
The trans isn’t hunting and it will now hold gear up hills.

for those those who think this is too much gear for the truck, it is NOT. Truck is driving line it should have from the factory.

That’s a lot of money to regear again. I think I would only consider it if I was going to add new lockers and stuff.

Sounds like a plan to me ;)
FYI - I am running 5.29s and 255/85/16s. I am armored up and got lots o’ stuff in the bed. I for one think it rides out perfect.

You wont have to buy the bearing kit, so that's a huge cost savings. Most likely the installer can re use the shims as both the 488 and 529 are close, but to be safe, I'd still suggest a minor I stall kit. Def need new seals and crush sleeves. If you have the availability to have the truck down for a little bit, you can send your stuff to me and I can turn it around quickly.

If you can afford it, I'd do it. Just like stated above, it won't be the same cost as the initial. Maybe the installer even used a solid spacer instead of a crush sleeve, which can be reused. Shims are dirt cheap. You'd need new pinion seals, not sure if you need to replace other seals.

Everybody's financial situation and desires are different. Personally, I'll do what I need to make the truck drive how I want. If money was an issue, I wouldn't even consider it.

I recommend either doing it yourself or going through a member like above ^^

Waste of money in my opinion, and more importantly won’t make you happy. 5.29 is great, but it’s not going to make or break on this truck over 4.88. Gears help a lot, but don’t change the crappy transmission.

I’m on the fence between a supercharger or just getting out, time will tell which way I go. I’m waiting to see reactions on a positive displacement supercharger and the 3.0 diesel on the Silverado. Both seem to be about 6 months away, so in the meantime I’m just dealing.

If in the exact same situation thats what I’d do and maybe add a sprint booster. Still more cost effective than regearing again.
