    ;) Anytime homes!

Glad you love the Borla as much as I do. Dual cans are definitely the way to go on a 3" exhaust setup for a Tacoma if you hate drone or rasp. Now we're damn near identical powertrain twins lol

Makes me wonder what 2 inline XR-1 canisters would sound like on my truck.....

see.. i have "dual cans" as well.. but im thinking the design of the Borla is what makes it more tame.

Is the Borla a straight through design?

My Vibrant resonator (straight through) and my Aero 3030xl (straight through) sound decent.. but wouldnt mind something a LITTLE less raspy.

but, that may just be the headers.. and I'll either have to deal with it, or swap to shorties.

With resonators, placement is KEY. If you're putting it right in the front of the cat back at the y pipe flange, it won't do much of anything at all. People tend to think they're "mini sized mufflers" but they're really not "muffling" any sound at all---A resonator uses a tuned canister to actively cancel out sound. It creates a sort of sound "filter" that eliminates problem frequencies - so they tune it for a specific loud spot in operation. Keyword: SPECIFIC. It targets only a small range of frequencies which is why many people aren't pleased immediately after putting in a resonator. Over time, resonators do wear out as well so they only get worse unfortunately.

A muffler is usually a series of expansions that take energy from the gas flow to decrease sound. This process covers a much more broad spectrum of sound frequencies which is why in line mufflers sound substantially different than a resonator/muffler inline setup.

Ideally, for a resonator to have any substantial affect on sound, on our trucks, it should come right after the main muffler---but space isn't ideal on that end of the exhaust.

I've had both kinds of Vibrant resonators welded onto my truck: oval and bullet type. Neither did anything substantial at the location they were put at which was right after the y pipe flange. The oval Vibrant resonator worked alright---until I had my long tubes put in and it was pretty much useless at that point.

I would take the resonator out and weld in another muffler if you want a palpable change in sound---if space is there for you.

The XR-1 that Brock and I have on our trucks is straight through center/center, so any power loss via dual in line mufflers is minute if any at all. The reason I went with the Borla is because it was the biggest canister I could fit between the rear muffler and the y pipe flange of the cat back. I measured that area about a million times and found the dimensions on the Borla are damn near perfect for that area.

got ya. thats exactly where i have my Vibrant.. after the Y, before the Aero. looks like ill be trying the Borla sooner than i thought then. i do have the room.. i made sure there was plenty of space for changes.

unfortunately.. all the space is just after the Y and be fore the muffler. the Aero (since i was so sure i would love it) is pretty much tucked as tightly as I can get it right before dumping the piping after the rear axle.

so.. the only thing i can really change is the resonator/muffler after the Y. guess ill start there.. and try a Borla.. might even do dual Borlas like you mentioned.. if its in fact the Aero contributing to the sound/rasp.. as it a small cylinder, straight through type muffler

Couldn't hurt to try it out!

    When you're ready, you're gonna look for the Borla XR-1 model #40943. ;) 3" center/center

    Thanks man!

If that doesn't do it, will try replacing the Aero, but I might just have to learn to live with it.. since it could, and most likely, is due to the headers. Don't really want to swap those out.. price and pain wise.. but Shorties are tempting too.. lol FML..

nice. sounds pretty good. might definitely have to try that Borla. only concern, is my Aero. other than that, the rest of our setup is the same so should sound similar
