The $800 Taco build (aka Dadmobile)

2007 Taco Double cab short bed prerunner.

Build started here....

So I bought a Wrecked 2007 double cab prerunner with a clean title for $800 from a coworker.
The truck looks rough at first but once I discovered the interior is in amazing shape and the truck only had 98k miles I knew I had to save this truck from getting scrapped or parted out.
So I told the wife I have another project to drag home and then I hooked up the trailer and headed to my coworkers house. Actually drove the truck on the trailer, very stoked on my purchase!



So the Build began! chopping and unbolting everything I could and saving any parts and bolts i can use putting it back together.



After several weekends of working on it for a few hrs in the afternoons I had something that resembled a tacoma again!

Does it have a clean title because the previous owner didn't have full coverage?

So next I built a bumper and got new tires, Installed new headlights and a few other items
I lost a few pics I took of the build so sometimes you might see a big jump in progress because I didnt have pics of the struggles


And I got new shoes for the Taco! I really like kenda tires now, Iv been Running Kenda Klever RTs in a 33/10.5/17s on my dually for a while and I put a set of Kenda klever AT2s on my wife's Land cruiser 100 so I decided to run the same Kenda klever AT2s on the taco

265/75/16 Kenda klever ATS on stock suspension


Also scored a set of Toytec 2.5 coilovers. they are older coilover but they are built by radflo so easy to get parts for and rebuilt. I will be having theses coilovers gone thru before they get installed on the truck

 

PO never reported it to Insurance, Truck was Dragged back to his house and parked in the field.

 

Looks like the radiator and condenser were untouched; Airbags didn't deploy either?

 

That's a heck of a score. Would've been a perfect candidate for long travel.

 

Radiator had a small crack and the condenser had a slight bend to it but AC still worked but I replaced both regardless

 

The frame has no rust?

 

would love a long travel truck but honestly no where to really use it to its potential where I live, There are places I could open it up but its very illegal and I don't feel like paying tickets and going to court. I wheel on military land that is open to the public and the Range police are MP's and they can be very strict.

You gonna put a killer stereo system in it?

 

Ill probably swap out the head unit so I can hook up my phone but I wont bother with speakers until the stock stuff is junk

 

I always felt like the OEM stereo systems in 2005-2008 Tacomas were a downgrade over what the 1st Gens came with; Toyota did away with the cassette player and didn't bother to add an AUX input until the 2009 model year!

As it sits right now, your truck would make a better Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle than my truck!

 

Found it on ebay. it was like 100 bucks I think. I had to try 3 different sellers before I found one with them in stock
