I need a place I can interview a guy for History without stopping all the work at his place. Hopefully someplace relatively quiet, but I'm asking for a lot.

Is it the slow season for photography? What're you shooting?

ahhh, are you talking like a residential garage or a commercial garage?

It's just that I'm still working on building my business. Right now I'm shooting anything that makes for a strong portfolio but I'd like to work my way into fashion photography. I just have absolutely no contacts in the industry so it's a little slow going. But I've been keeping busy shooting weddings with a friend of mine and developing some shoot ideas I have.

Commercial. Hell, even industrial at this point.

What about taking actor headshots? Good parlay into fashion maybe?

ahh, yeah don't know anyone with any commercial/industrial space unfortunately. but I'll keep an eye out. how soon are you looking to have this completed?

Yeah, I've done a couple headshot sessions for my port. Need to do some more. I've got a couple contacts I've made through some facebook photography/model groups, just need to get the time to schedule shoots. I don't have much lighting equipment and need to shoot mostly outdoor which makes me limited to only shooting weekends right now since I don't get out of work until after sunset.

fashion industry is a pain sometimes... industry is oversaturated... companies are looking to pay cheap and the ones that pay good want agency repped shooters and published photogs... it's a cool niche and all, but for consistent money, private portrait clients and weddings are solid way to go... get a lot of practice time in with fashion catalog on white seamless and studio strobes... avoid monolights and fine tune with power pack systems like Dynalite... once you get in with one or two solid clients, you are looking at a carefree $400 to $500 a day... before i got sick i was at Wet Seal clocking in that day rate 5 days a week without breaking a sweat...

on a commercial lifestyle fashion gig you can cruise about $1,500 a day, but depending on the client's seasonal deliveries, those shoots are about 3 to 4 months apart, and they don't always use the same photographer for each..

Thanks for that info! That's really helpful to know. Why strobes over monolights?

I'm partial to strobes for consistent light. With a regulated power pack the wattage and temperatures of the lights are more consistent especially if you need to burst. The recycle time is faster and more reliable. I shot with monolights for a good 7 years before switching to power pack 8 years ago and the difference was notable.
