Hey who has the time to RTFM? Could we reduce it to a couple pages of cool things to know? I can start with some new things I read about last night before it put me to sleep:

Gripping the door handle unlocks the drivers door, but holding it for 2-3 seconds will unlock all the doors.

Touching the bumps on top or under the hinges end of the handle will lock the doors. Most of you probably knew that (I drove a 3rd gen that also has this but never knew!!)

Automatically set and release the E parking brake: Enable the feature by holding it out for 5 seconds, then it beeps. Now it will release automatically when you put it in gear and press the accelerator, and engage when you turn off ignition.

Turn off your spare key FOB to save battery. It won’t work as proximity key until you turn it back on: Hold lock and press unlock 3 times then it flashes. Use it to re-enable it.

Anything cool you didn’t know about and read about? Add it in the comment and share the knowledge!

The credit card key will do almost everything the fob does as far as unlocking the doors and starting the truck . IMG_0702.jpg

It's a recessed triangle on mine.
On the manual, it sets automatically when turning off the engine, but have to manually release it every time.

Yep yep have a manual too and yes the default sets itself if I have the brake on and turn it off, but surprisingly with this setting enabled it will release the brake when you are in gear, clutch out and apply the accelerator. Seems like it will bog down and die but it actually releases! The setting makes the truck beep 3 times when you it enabled.

With the Toyota app, you can find where it’s parked. You need to have the truck to set it up though.

That's odd. It's a pretty standard Toyota/Lexus function. Works fine on my SR5, my wife's NX300, my daughter's Camry. You have to wrap your hand around the handle to hit the sensor.

OK I decided I wouldn’t be beaten by a door handle lock feature. I finally figured out that to unlock all doors using the drivers door handle I need to use my left hand and keep my thumb parallel to the handle. Seems like a long 3 seconds but all the doors did unlock.

what all can you do with the center part of the cluster? besides settings. cruise data. and blank. seems like a lot of wasted space.

Here's one I recently learned - putting the vehicle into tow/haul mode automatically disables the rear automatic braking for pedestrians and proximity.

It's extra useful to engage tow/haul mode before you hook up - otherwise the emergency braking will most likely engage as you're hooking up, especially if someone is standing by the coupler guiding you in.

It's a lot easier than fiddling with the cluster menu to disable that setting.

I think there's a setting in the 'Vehicle Settings' panel on the center screen (not the dash settings) that lets you choose whether the door handle unlocks only that door or all the doors. I'm travelling next couple of days. Can check when I'm back unless someone beats me to it.

The Toyota app is interesting. I initially had the Lexus app on my phone, as I'd been driving our 2021 NX300 for a while prior to getting my Tacoma in August (the NX is NOT my type of car, but I needed a car for a bit and it was what we owned). So my wife installed the Lexus app on her phone when she took the car back and logged in to the account - all good. I installed the Toyota app for my new Tacoma (yay!) and went to setup my account. It insisted I already had an account, but I had never had a new enough Toyota to have the app. So on a guess I logged in with the Lexus ID and bam - I'm not only in, but BOTH cars show up in the Toyota app, and the Tacoma shows up in the Lexus app on my wife's phone. They're essentially the same app, but apparently the databases are linked. Makes sense, I guess. There's so much parts crossover and many models are basically the same (the NX is just a fancy-ish RAV4). I was surprised nonetheless.

In the app you can also make dealer service appointments, track service, service alerts, TSBs, and recalls. You can also personalize your car's name in the app (my Tacoma is named Truk; not sure whether this shows up in the dealer records).

In case anyone's interested, my 1999 Camry does not show up in either app. Awesome, unkillable car though.

Also untraceable, which is mostly a good thing, except if stolen.

I was happy to find this out from a YouTube video. I like to keep a key fob in a magnetic key box, hidden in the frame. Being able to disable it was the only way to make this happen.

There was something in the manual about storing the key a minimum of 6 feet away from the truck so the key couldn't be cloned. I wonder if turning this off would negate the concern with that.

Also works great for preventing relay attack theft.

I'm too lazy and just use a faraday box.
