I need to look it up again. I know there was a change at some point. It was small but enough that I wasn't going to chance it. I am hoping we can plug this leak and I can chug along until I find a place.

Good plan. Hopefully its simple and not like the front or rear main seal or something weird.

I would hope so but I am not holding my breath.

How much do I need to pay one of you guys to come steal my truck and set it on fire?

Would it be cheaper to speed up the process of registration on the Dodge or drop $1,100+ on babyT?

Given that you are still looking at houses... $600 beater?

I have the money to cover the repairs and it shouldn't effect the house. The dodge is tied up in my mother's estate so not much I can do there. It would be registered by now otherwise. Hopefully that is fixed soon.

We won't be getting a new or used car loan until we find a house. At most I would be willing to spend 5-8k on a used truck that I would like to keep (and sell BabyT)

The best route right now is to find out where the leak is and if it's cheap, fix it. Then replace the engine when things relax and drive the truck till it dies.

Go to your local DMV and ask them for a 30, 60, or 90 day temp permit. You can also get these at a Port-Of-Entry. It will cost you a few bucks but generally they will take the temp permit cost off of the price of your license plate registration. These are regulated by the Federal DOT and you can get them in any state. You may have to provide a copy of a probate or vehicle transfer documents or a power of attorney, but it usually isn't a problem, and at least you'd have wheels until you sort out BabyT.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll ask about it tomorrow. I get to go get my Idaho license finally.

Is there actually oil coming out of that hole? Isn't it in the timing cover?

Not when it's idling at least. And yes, that's the timing cover.
Ha! I appreciate it but if I go that route I have met people here with all the tools I need. If only the weather would cooperate...

hmm i doubt thats the source of the oil leak. But either something shot out of there or it got damaged when the shop was working on babyt.

Looking at the hole tells me that something from the inside came out violently. Consider sending that photo to the person that did the rebuilding a WTF?

In the 4 cyl, timing of crank and cam is accomplished with a chain as opposed to a belt in the V6. Chains, tensioners, etc. need oil. So yes, oil is present inside that cover.

That hydraulic tensioner that Ray was fighting is right in there. I'm suspicious that's where the noise was coming from prior to failure. Sorry to see this man! I still wonder if it's repairable by a qualified technician. It's worth a look if pieces didn't end up in the lower end. They're probably laying in the bottom of the timing cover.
