Hey everyone! I hope all of you guys are doing well in this crazy time! I am teleworking or working in the field...which isn’t all the insane from my normal schedule .

Figured I would post an update since I just kinda disappeared for a bit :D. I FINALLY put a new engine in BabyT (Mid January)!!! It’s been running awesome and feels good to not worry about the truck breaking down anymore. I recently noticed a small oil leak but I’m not stressing it right now.

In other news we are in the process of closing on a new house. It is a nice upgrade from our 760sqft home we have now. It has a spacious 2 car garage that will be a nice upgrade to my one car. No shop :(, but there is 20 acres to add one in the future :D!

I will post some photos of the new place early May if all goes well!

It’ll be probably 5+ years out but I would be more than happy with a 20x30 if we also have the 2 car garage. Only about 2.5 acres is open and easily usable. You have to cross a perennial creek to access the other acreage and it’s dense timber. I plan on using that chunk for deer hunting.

Good news! We will be closing on our home next week! Pictures to follow. It’s too bad we are moving to an awesome quarantine home so late in the covid-19 game .

Unfortunately closing was delayed but it was so nice today we decided to go for a hike. On the way back we decided to drive by the soon-to-be (hopefully) new home. The plum and cherry trees are already blooming down there! Hopefully we will close on it this week but here’s a preview from the gate.

We are beyond excited and I never expected to be moving to a property like this at this time in my life. It’s been on the market for years but at a much higher price. We just got lucky and put in an offer when the seller was motivated to sell. There is tons of work/updating to do but it’s gonna be well worth our time and effort down the road.

@BabyTaco Congrats on the new house & property! Looks really nice. Your going to have room for a horse or two, and an old clunker truck w/snow plow or blower and a BIG riding mower.:D Oh! welder, grinder drill press etc, to keep them in working order.

It's what happened to me, I loved it. However it goes for you it'll happen. I'm happy and excited for you and Liz!

Thank you! I wish I could say you are wrong but I tend to build/buy things to fill empty spaces! My grandfather built his shop with the idea that it was more than big enough for his toys at the time. He quickly filled it with tractors, motorcycles, and whatever else he could wrench on pretty quick . I will probably make the same mistake when we finally build one.

Got a question about trailer harnesses for everyone.

History: I installed a Curt trailer harness back in 2012. Worked great until sometime last year. I pulled the harness because it was blowing fuses and killing my running lights. Everything has been great truck wise since pulling it and I haven’t had to tow.

Current Issue: I purchased a new Curt trailer harness last week. It’s a simple plug and play, same as the old one. I plug it in and no trailer lights at all. So I assume it’s the trailer and inspect the wiring. Everything is in great shape (we rewired it 2 years ago). I went ahead and cleaned the ground anyways and still nothing

So I picked up a trailer plug circuit tester. Plug it in and it has three LED lights labeled tail, LT, and RT. So the problem is my truck. I pull the harness out, check the wiring, clean the ground again and same thing.

The weird part is I could play with how I plugged it in the tester and could get everything working but it wasn't a secured or safe option for the trailer. So I cut the plug off the new harness and wired on another plug. Still not working.

What am I missing here? I’ve tried multiple grounding locations and nothing. The only thing I haven’t tried is running the ground all the way to the battery. I’ll be doing that soon but figured I would see if anyone has any input?

Is there a fuse that I am missing? I checked all the relevant ones I could think of. All the lights on the truck are working perfectly but there is some disconnect at the harness.

Are you using the ball and hitch for the ground? If so that could be the problem (rust). Might check fuses in the (truck) lighting circuit. Also the trailer lights and grounding. Trailer electrical problems are either shorted or opens, yours would seem to be of the shorting variety.

Are you moved into you new digs?

It’s not the trailer. The trailer may have a problem but we won’t know until I get the harness squared away. The trucks battery died and just so happened my Subaru’s battery died as well . So that leaves us with the hybrid and instead of disconnecting the 12v battery in that I picked up one of those battery jump packs to keep in the truck. I have the new harness hooked up again and grounded to the battery. I’ll jump it in the morning and see if that solves anything.

And yes! We are all moved in. I have been super busy with new projects/maintenance that I haven’t posted about it. I’ll put up some photos soon!

Sounds like the trucks plug is bad to me. Or you have bad wires somewhere tat are grounding out.

I’m guessing I just got a dud of a harness. I’m going to run into town tomorrow and grab a new one from uhaul. I’ve looked at just about everything and it’s still not working.

You have a volt meter with a continuity tester? Cause you should be able to test the harness with that if something is wired backwards
