Yep, this is the 3rd. The 1st one came with the truck, I put one on when I first notice oil consumption, the dealership "inspected" it a few weeks after and said it was fine, and now this mechanic installed one.

That's kinda odd. Seems like it should last way longer than that?

They should but maybe someone more educated might speak up? I am hoping that someone knows a bigger issue in an engine that would cause PCV failure...

You might want to look into an oil catch can as well. Youd be able to monitor how much oil is going through, itll also keep it from being burned off

Maybe your just getting a bunch of blow by and all the gunk is fouling up the valve. But that would suggest your piston rings or walls are really worn. But that doesn't make since since your truck isn't that old. Idk. In my truck the throttle body and manifold were covered in oil and gunk. I'm thinking about getting a catch can.

Maybe Mark can shed a little light here @Torspd

Makes me wonder if this is where all of my oil went. I was getting a lot of oil in my throttle body as well as my catch can. Though I don't know that it was 4 qts worth...

I used a spare air compressor oil separator on my FJ80, as it also had oil in the intake tube. It works great, but it fills up every few thousand miles and I should have a larger one in there. I check it often enough it doesn't really matter much. In the old days, engines vented the blow by gasses (and oil vapor) right into the atmosphere. If you've ever taken off an intake full of crud from thousands of miles of PCV barf you know why. An interesting note- When our motors are cold blow by is at it's worst. It is better to slowly warm your truck at idle than hop in it and hit the highway when it's -20F... Next cold morning let your truck idle and remove the oil fill cap. It is amazing how much air is moving past the pistons.

Thanks for the info @username. I try my best to warm it up when I can.

@BradyT88 if you can you should pull the pcv and see how it looks.

Mechanic also said to grab some seafoam and run it through the engine.

Is it a pretty simple process?

Yea super easy. Just let the motor suck it up little at a time and don't let it die. Then let it sit for a bit and restart it andlet it idle till it stops smoking.

You can add it to the crank case too but you'll want to change the oil within 50 miles.

Check your plugs after it too

And make sure you find a vacuum line that will allow the Seafoam to get to all the cylinder

Id suggest doing the vacuum process. Would not try putting it gas, ive clogged a couple injectors that way before.

What? Isn't it suppose to clean the injectors? I've ran it through both.

Supposedly. I think i might loosen some other crud in places. Only had the issue after running seafoam.
