How in gods name would a t56 bolt to a tacoma tcase?

And the v6 has something going for it..its light. Way lighter then any ls motor that you could afford anyways.

and the v6's are kinda.....EVERYWHERE....not exactly hard to find or work on.

I wouldn't say a LS engine is hard to find. Probably easier than a v6.

I wasn't trying to imply an LS was hard to find, though I guess I sorta did haha. My preference would just be the V6.

If I was putting that kind of money into it...hard to be the power/weight of an ls. The v6 would probably be "easier" and cheaper to do though. More than enough power and reliable

It was a shot in the dark. haha I'll bet somebody makes an adapter, but there is probably a better manual trans option. The 1GR is about 100 lbs lighter than the aluminum block LS's. Most of them are in the $3K-$4K price range used.
LS's are really easy to find. Go to Ebay and you can find tons and tons of ads. Type in 1GR and you get less than 10...

Yea because there are probably over a hundred different ls motors.

Exactly. 100lb for an aluminum one. Which is much more expensive. So most go for an iron block. Which I bet is probably what..150-250lb more?

For a single cab tacoma..a v6 would be pretty ballsy haha add the tried and true Trd blower to it later for more craziness.

Weight is every bit as important as hp.

Seriously doubt a Toyota tcase bolts to a t56. Not worth making an adapter.

Yeah the iron block is about 200 lbs heavier. You can pick them up for about $500 though. The 5.3L seems to be a pretty solid option. When I was trying to decide what motor I wanted I was searching on ebay for very specific LS motors, like the L92, LM7, etc and I usually got a lot of hits on each one. I think it's also because there is a larger resale market for a used Chevy V8 than a Toyota V6.

While an S/C'd V6 would be sweet in a light single cab, the TRD S/C's are getting pretty hard to find too. Maybe it won't be so bad once Magnuson comes out with them again, but I won't be surprised if the price tag is similar to URD's S/C's.

My plan was to do the L92 which is a 6.2L putting out just over 400 HP stock. With some minimal modifications it breaks 500HP at the wheels pretty easy. I think hte extra 150HP over a heavily modified TRD S/C'd 1GR is worth the extra 100 lbs.

yea but there theres the issue that you'll need a whole new rear axle and say good bye to R&Ps in the front too. And CVs.

Thats too much power for our trucks drive train.

Might as well sell the taco and get something else.

At this point we are probably getting unrealistic for Gage while he is still in school, but for me I was going to run a 6L80E trans which is a 6 spd auto and some sort of Tcase (possibly an Atlas if funds allowed). The 6 speed has a 4:1 first gear and I would likely pick a Tcase with at least a 3:1 so I would be geared a lot lower than I am now and with the auto it will be easy enough to baby the throttle when needed. That would hopefully get me by until I could upgrade the rear end to something bigger. The front end would be harder and more expensive though. With any luck it would hold out for quite a while. I haven't seen too many front diffs break on 2nd gens.

how many 2nd gens push 400+ ft/lbs or torque through the front diff? lol

Lower gears also mean more torque..which actually ups the chances of breaking shit.

Just doesn't seem worth it in the long run for any 4wd tacoma.

200 of that goes to the rear ;) haha Lower gears do move the stress down stream, but they also mean more control. Look at n0rth. He has managed to not ever break a CV with his crawlbox and 36's and he's even running cheap CV's! I'll get it figured out, though I may grenade a few diffs/axles while learning where the limit is:burnrubber:

For me, I am way too under powered in the sand dunes. If I didn't go to the dunes all the time then it probably wouldn't matter since when I am mobbing the desert my stock V6 has no trouble getting me up into the 70's and 80's, but in the dunes, If I am going up hill it's just constant deceleration...

Money isn't exactly my concern. Obviously I shouldn't be sunk into a project that will likely total 20k. Thats dumb and I am smarter with my money than that. My concern is who the fuck would do this work!? I am far from anything amazing at working on cars. I am a tinkerer by nature but thats it. My past experiences prove that the cost of a project needs to be doubled cause ill fuck it up and have to do it again .

Forgot to mention I tried to order the milwaukee on tuesday night. I have Amazon prime so it should have been plenty of time to get here for friday. Well, apparently that is impossible and it would arrive until monday at the soonest.

Probably go to a local store and see what I can do. Most places here favor dewalt so might end up with one of them. I guess if I don't like it I can return it and order the milwaukee.

2uz would be fun! Who knows...after this incident maybe the truck fund will start growing for something better in the future. Ordered the bike in preparation to fuck things up . Figured I would start riding to school even if the truck is fixed. Save on gas, time, and well...it gives me another hobby.

As far as the impact goes. I ordered sockets and extensions to make it work. Going to try the breaker bar one last time. If that doesn't work then Ill go buy the dewalt impact and decide if it's going to fit the bill...if not I might return or sell it.
