I don't mind the airflow ones they make for 2nd gens. They look better then the safari ones.

I figured haha. Expo is pretty much the Gucci of trucks now. I want something simple and effective. Money aside, the looks of a typical snorkel is gross. The hmmwv stubby style intrigues me.

I live right on the coast where you can drive on the beaches with fishing buggy permits and not far south is a large area of woods with plenty of trails, tho rather flat. Funny how I'm use to seeing lift and tires a lot but all of a sudden there's "trail rated" rigs built brand new that will never see dirt. Soccer moms with snorkels and pizza delivery cars have light bars.. I read an article not to long ago saying the "Expo rig" is the new sports car. I realized while building my truck, I've done so to get far far away from everybody :D

Yeah I'm gonna have to relocate mine. Thought about going into the cabin air filter location.

Damn that is massive but it would be a simple solution. That's why I was thinking a CAI would work for me. I know Volant does the ram air scoop.

Well, I debated with myself over the possible options. I have came down to two.

    1. Hilux snorkel from CruiserOutfitters. Cheaper than 2nd gen specific and look the best.
    • Good: Has been done and proven to work.
    • Bad: Still have the possibility of sucking in snow all the time.
    2. In cab snorkel (possible deckplate type mod to use on long road trips to shut off noise in cab)
    • Good: Won't have to worry about mud, water, or snow. This is also exceptionally cheap at ~ $50 to route it in.
    • Bad: LOUD and I am always wide open in the 4banger

Just not sure if the noise would be that big of a deal. I run with my windows down if it's above 50 outside and sunny but it might be annoying during the long Wyoming winters.

Just get a prefilter for the snorkel and snow won't be an issue.

Apparently the prefilter just sucks in the snow and it becomes a block of ice...

Then you just turn the normal ram air intake around during the winter.

Everytime it's snowing I turn the scoop inward 90* and have never had issues in the snow. This is from a trip this past winter in New Hampshire during a snow storm

Well simple enough then. Might order the kit tonight.

Yea some people run the scoop completely backwards. I think it turned in 90* minimizes flakes entering in the snorkel while still allowing some air flow to enter. You can see in the pic the build up of snow and slush on the outside of snorkel that otherwise woulda been in the inner backside of the scoop and eventually melted. I keep a key to the hose clamp in the cab to be able to pull over at any time and adjust as needed.

You have the hilux model, yes? How was the install with the included template? Pretty quick and easy?

Yea the Hilux. My buddy @JLink gave me a hand, he has been a part of a couple installs prior to mine. As far as the template goes, it seemed the antenna area was a little off so I moved the template twords the passenger door about an inch and went off that. I'd consider the actual snorkel install the easy part, plumbing it was a bitch. I ended up saving as much factory intake as I could and when you pop the hood.. looks stock. The Hilux Kit helps you adapt the snorkel body to our trucks, the plumbing is up to you. There is a supplied piece of exhaust pipe with the kit but it didn't work for me, I went out and got my own to adapt it. There's some pics here in my build https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/chuxs-2013-beach-buggy-build.339950/page-59
@V5ioV might be able to add some info as he just installed the snorkel body and working on the plumbing

Ill take a look at those. I am guessing it should be pretty easy for me. The air box is right next the to hole.

Photo of the day. Been reading and writing most of the day. Only taking breaks to look at snorkels haha.
