My current mounting points, which appear to be very well thought out and executed. I guess the weight of a whole truck dropping down onto one spot on the sliders, is going to bend or flex the sliders a little.

Why go through all that trouble. Just get someone local to weld you some additional strength onto the sliders.

The way they attach to the trans crossmember here looks like an afterthought and/or just a way to cut cost. Is there anything under that leg of the slider in the frame?

If the slider properly installed is flexing enough to cause damage, that’s a design issue. As skip said though, any slider will have some amount of flex.

SOS doesn't have any support there which is bad design and mine flex like crazy there. I've seen pretty much every brand flex into the rocker pinch at some point. Some of it is the frames on these toyotas flexing as well we have pretty weak frames.
I like this idea is to get someone to add some strength into them. @cubie if you can get some good clear pics that show the whole attachment set up across the entire or majority of the slider I'd be glad to give you my opinion. Personally off the bat I'd see if there is some more vacant holes in the frame that the slider plates are covering up and if so drill the slider plates and add some bolts. Also make sure the washers on the inside of the frame are good and not just chinsy washers like some companies use.

Yeah, the bolts go through that bracket and the frame plate and there's a 2x2 frame washer on the inside of the frame for each bolt.

Oh they are beefy washers. They are 3/8" thick half-moon washers. The are pretty structurally sound. I'm gonna have to crawl under my truck this afternoon and look at everything that my truck went through this weekend!

My sliders were pretty shitty when i first bolted them on. But know they are really good in my opinion . Flex is just enough to not contact body. I had to add extra gussets and added 2 extra bolts on each side of slider and that stiffened them up a good bit. My sliders did extremely well this weekend and i had a couple of really hard hits on em!

I was pretty unhappy with the strength of the SOS sliders, which is why I build my own. I still have some work to do in the rear section of the sliders to increase strength when I decide what route I want to take, but overall they are much better than what I had. Skids also need to be beefed up.

noticed the new sale threads weren’t started by you...

If I had a tube bender and didn’t have to pay a friend to bend the tube for me, it would have been about 1/6th of the price.

Nope I'm out. Skids I actually like the simplicity of SOS, if only they could fix the QC issues, compared to others for the one reason they all get hammered, I've even seen BAFM ones beat to death. To me skids are a wear item that needs replaced from time to time.

I'm working on getting some tooling and a shop space then I'll start making my own shit.

nice. Id like to add a tube to the end of my slider to beef that part up a little. Is that something that could be done while slider was on truck or do you think it would be easier to do it off?

There is just no reinforcement to them. Once I started welding I realized that nothing on the market really makes me happy though.

The near 14 gauge CMC plates also kinda made me mad.

Would be unrealistic to do it on the truck. Can’t weld the top.

Should of been 11ga, that closest match to the frame but if they weren't wouldn't of surprised me.

Yeah looking at most sliders, skids, and bumpers nothing really meets what I am looking for either.

Was definitely not 11 gauge. I had 11 gauge sheet in the garage at the time and it was much thinner.

I just want my sliders to be solid when I drop onto a rock. At least designed to where it won't hit my rocker panel if they flex. I mean, it's not bad, but it's still there.

That's a tough order when the frames twist on these like a rotten banana. But it can be done with the proper design and spacing. You also got to look at how far that outer tube is from it's attachement and the little gussets that you can fit that's a lot of fulcrum on that area and the frame. But you should easily be able to make those work a little better and not touch.
