And I'm building the Tline for my 8" polk audio on the hopes that it'll be the hardest hitting 8 I've heard and to impress my friends. I don't want a 4x1x1 box taking up my entire back seat all the time so it is just for fun.

Been working hard on my first pair of line arrays this week. So far so good! I can't wait to finish these and spend some time listening. I temporarily installed the drivers into one of the towers today to test my crossovers after I finished building them. Still haven't made a final decision on what amplifier I will use for these... Here's some pics from my adventures, thus far!

special thanks goes out to ItalynStalyn for his helpful advice in regards to line array construction and to http://www.speakerdesignworks.com/NS6project_1.html for the very detailed design for these towers.

You're welcome Shane! Cabinets look great and the crossovers look well built. I think you'll be happy with them.

How much was the total bill from Parts Express after all was said and done?

My parts express order was just under $330 and I've spent about $100 in other materials so far. The plan is to finish these, have some fun listening to them, use them for a party, then sell them for a little profit. I'll use the money I get from these to build a more advanced pair of line arrays and hopefully continue the trend until I have some seriously kick ass towers.

The crossovers were fun to build - I've never done anything quite like that before - but, I really have no idea how to design a crossover. I was simply following the instructions from the speaker design project website. Do you have any recommendations for where to research information on crossover design? I would like to learn more about it so I'll be able to build crossovers with points of my choice.

Some more pictures of the crossover building process. Finished the second one today and did some testing off of my Hertz EP4X from my truck. These things can get pretty loud! There's definitely room for improvement in sound quality, though. Most people would be perfectly satisfied, but I can pick out a few nasty dips and peaks. I'll reserve my judgement for when I hear the final product, though.

I've been looking for something like this to replace my old bose AM-5 without putting a hole in my wallet. Please let me know how it sound. Do you think this will sound good with my ONKYO TX-SR805? I know my unit is couple years old.

Make sure you dampen the rear wall a good bit. That will kill some of the reflections that would bounce off the rear and re-enter the cone and cause distortion.

Per the recommendation in the speaker design website, each compartment (containing 2 mids each, will be stuffed with 1lb of poly fill. Do you think that will be sufficient?

Some more pics of my line arrays! I've gotten all of the screw holes filled with bondo, and finished sanding both towers. I just have to mask a few things off and send them to get covered with bed-liner. Should be 100% by the end of the week!

I finally finished my line arrays! They are LOUD and sound pretty damn good! They really do need to be paired up with a good sub box to compliment their volume since they drop off around 50-60hz. I didn't get to spend much time listening to them yet. I played a few songs including some slayer which was AWESOME to hear at that volume.

Of course, I had to play gangam style on them for the video :D

Update on my Alpine build I built a new box yesterday/today let it sit for a few hours in the sun while I did other things, put the sub in right at dark, put some power to it, and listened to it for a while. This thing sound's sweet at ~250 rms power x-over'ed at 90 hz high and 20 low. At normal listening volume, 20-25 on my Kenwood, it's moving air like my two eight's at full tilt. Sound quality is good but I didn't listen to much other than hip-hop bass heavy song's to hear how it hit.

Kind of dead in here... Thought i'd bring it back into 2013!

Those array's turned out real nice shaneckc! Did you get a sub paired with them yet? Are they in your house now?

I'll be putting together a 10" marv box loaded with a hybrid imagine sub in the near future. I'll post pics and impressions as I go. I'm all stock speakers for now with a pioneer deh-80prs HU.

As for home audio here's a pic of my headphone rig :)

Things sure have changed since my day when we built systems. Back then you had 4 different types of boxes, (single phase, dual phase, etc) and only a handful of good companies that built amps. The best back then were Alpine, Kenwood, and Orion. Kicker had just started coming out.

I am not even in your league gentlemen. Though I would love to build me a decent system for my truck. I'm not one for huge bass that will vibrate the body bolts loose myself. (Though I used to have that type of system in the early 90s) I want to build a system that has acceptable quality sound, where neither the bass overrides the mids, or the highs pierce the ears. Everyone has their tastes and mine is where the bass is powerful, but not overbearing. Perhaps you guys out there who obviously are very knowledgeable could share some details in how you build your components, and what you look for? Maybe a "Best low, mid, and high budget head unit" and the same with amps and such. Back in the day, passive crossovers were better. Is that the same now? I would truly like to hear your input on things such as that.

Damn, i've never known about anything this indepth (crossovers ,setting drivers etc). I just bought a 15" sub and 760w amp, threw them in my truck and called it a day haha. But i am looking to upgrade my door speakers and maybe get some tweeters too, so any advice for me?

Also i have an eclipse sub thati have neve been able to figure out the exact wattage on. Its a 15" and has a plastic cone. I know eclipse is out of business and the sticker is gone on the back so i have no idea what it would be. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about these subs.

Besides what is in my truck now I cant offer any experience advice. I can tell you that the deh-80prs head unit is phenomenal. The adjust-ability(crossover) it offers if you start amping your lows mids and highs separately is an audiophile dream. For now I am running it with the stock speakers and it drives them really well. The auto eq and time alignment it does with the supplied mic did a good job getting it setup close to perfect.

Yotakid I have no idea on that 15"er...

Bamatoy1997 give MrMarv a call if you're up for building a complete system. He has really similar tastes in SQ as I do, balanced natural sounding with good high extension and air with bass to fill in the emotional part of the music. He could really help get you setup. He's a bit backed up right now but his knowledge is backed by a bunch of experience. Fair warning, you may be on the phone with him for a while, he likes to talk :)

Thanks for the info. Of course with my busy schedule, it would be easier for me to read a post and apply it a little at a time rather than talk on the phone...lol

The deh-80prs looks like an awesome head unit, but I don't have that kind of cash to throw into one.
