I disagree. I think the top 8 teams this year (Alabama, Texas, TCU, Cincinnati, Florida, Oregon, Ohio State, Boise St.) are enough. Does anyone really think #14 BYU has a shot to beat any of the top 8? TCU already owned their ass.

Look at the basketball side. Isn't it like 64 or something. Look at some of the teams either got to the finals and then actually won

The lowest seed to win the tournament was a #8 seed (Villanova in 1985). I rest my case for an 8 team playoff.

The way I see it, football playoffs are just the opposite of basketball playoffs. In basketball momentum can literally allow anything to happen and you have your repeated upsets. The more games you have in a football playoff, the more you eliminate those "good days" where the less talented team wins. Down the stretch the consistent, more talented, and better coached teams come out on top. And besides those rankings are crap, granted i don't think byu would have much for cincy, TCU or BSU.. but LSU and Penn State definitely would.

i agree... but i think TCU would have been a better match up for Florida... as far as the none Conference teams are concerned.

I think TCU would get owned by Florida, Alabama, and Texas. But I would like a playoff to prove it!

yea what i meant by better match up didnt mean they were gonna beat them... it just meant that it would have been a better game... lol.... but i agree that the luckiness of beating them would have been hard lol... Bama would have destroyed them for sure...

Me too, but it doesnt really matter which non bcs conference team florida beats by three tds... There needs to be a playoff system, period. Because then these undefeated non bcs conference teams wouldnt be a problem, they are merely weeded out if they dont deserve to be there, or they earn some stripes if they make it anywhere

The comparison to the basketball tourney doesn't work. Certainly, the use of corporate sponsors for particular venues works, but to think that 3 or 4 more games to the football season would be doable is not.

Football is a lot rougher sport on the body and it is hard enough to keep players healthy for 12 games. You run the risk of having multiple starters for all teams involved being injured. Sure, it is a risk that every team takes every game, but extending the season more than a game or two would be fought by many of the schools from which everyone needs support.

The pageantry (and money) involved with the bowl system is not to be underestimated either. You can just look at the Rose Bowls affect on the current system. They are the biggest single reason there isn't some sort of playoff system yet. If you have a 16 team playoff, you could incorporate the less prestigious bowls, but you lose some of the historic tie ins. You also lose some of the glamor of the big 4 bowls.

Top 4 teams play, 1 v 4; 2 v 3. Winners of those games play in the title game. Fourth bowl game is played as a consolation game.

If the fourth bowl (presumable the Rose Bowl) must be kept in the loop, then the 4 games rotate, as they do now.

^^^come on now..the pros play 17 games and more. thier bodies are weaker than the young college players. it is not unreal to have a few more game to conduct a playoff.

4 teams is not enough to accurately represent the best teams of the nations's colleges.

How do you pick those top 4 teams? should be by thier record and not just who you THINK should be there. if by record and, then this will be difficult if there is only 4 teams allowed to play off since they will run into ties with other teams easily. i say no less than 8 but should be more however i understand that would be a big feat.

i guess we could beat this up forever. just my opinion.

Competition in basketball is not the same as in football. Look at the size of Div 1 basketball pool. Nearly 350 schools compete, where as there are only 120 FBS teams. It is much easier to field a good basketball team than it is to form a competitive football team.

Are you kidding me? Pro player have weaker bodies than college players? Access to the best trainers and equipment money can but, as well as more developed bodies; pro players are far and above stronger, faster, more developed than the typical college player. They do play more games, but they are also privy to support that college player are not.

As for picking the top 4 teams, the current BCS system can be used to pick the top teams. Do you have a better system in mind? I don't think there is a flawless system in existence. But the current BCS system does at take out some of the emotional skewing of polling individuals and brings more pure statistics into the choices. Granted, there are differences between how teams play and the competition they face that can skew stats, but the computer system factors in multiple stat categories using different calculations to downplay anomalies.

this years sugar bowl? obviously the skew caused by competition level and playing style didn't work there, Cincinnati falling victim that time

if you on the side of the BCS then youre in the minority! and as for pros having weaker bodies...you cannot continue to play football and expect your joints and ligaments to get stronger. yes you can increase speed and build muscle but that means nothing when the frame work (your bones joints ligaments) is getting strained and beat up. your only in the pros a few years before your jsut trying to keep your body up to par. some people just have stinkin talent and can last a long but they are the greats and there is only so many of them compared to the ones who are broken and end up unable to compete.

I think you mistake stronger for Muscles and speed...in the end you can have the strongest muscles in the world but blow a knee due to all those years of battery and your screwed.

Edit: and lets just remind ourselve of the years past and the choices the BCS system has brought to us and the great distaste most Americans have with it. it's not like we are pushing global warming or climate change or whatever you want to call it...it is a legitimate gripe and has a lot of validity. there is no way around it. there is nothing good about the current system and most people want it to change FOR THE BETTER, not just change for change..no pun intended ahhahahahaha...
