Yes. It fell perfectly. Could have done some real damage to either the fence or the house. We were lucky!

Although it was tricky getting the upper section down without it breaking the fence. Worked out

For my needs, I think it's better. I like most of the way it works better and I need the capacity for making 10 gallon or high gravity beers. Only downside of it is that a 5 gallon batch is almost as small as I can do. I need about 3 gallons to keep the coil covered. I use 5 and 2.5 gallon ball lock kegs. A 10 gallon batch takes as long as a 5 gallon so for events sometimes I'll make 10, or to split it with a friend. The high gravity system, to me, has the best level of parts and features for the money. Only thing it doesn't really have is a grain basket but the bag is almost easier.

5 gallon batches are the norm. Your best bet for a first system is a brew in a bag setup, either in a kettle or a 10 gallon water cooler. The cooler just makes mash temperatures stay constant without monitoring and firing the burner all the time. I started with that setup using a false bottom in the cooler but a bag inside would be a lot easier and work just as well if not easier. Gas burner($50), 8-15 gallon kettle ($80-300), fermenter ($30), brew bag ($30), cooler ($50), small support items ($50-150) to start out really.

If you guys have any more specific questions shoot me a PM, or post here if you want.

Me too. If I had a fireplace :pout:

Previous owners put in a propane insert.

Looking into switching it out for wood.
