The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

Another expensive weekend picking up bottles and brewery hopping...

Went to Athens and hit the Creature Comforts Concurrence no.1 and no.2 bottle release... No.1 is a vanilla barrel aged stout I got to try at their 5 Year Anniversary Party a few months back. It was really good then and I knew I needed a couple bottles, but No.2 was one I was really interested in. It’s a rye barrel aged stout with coffee and cinnamon. Nod definitely went to No.2!

After that we had lunch at Trapeze, which I’ve heard great things about. Food was just meh... Beer list was pretty solid. I had a Westbrook/Evil Twin Mexican Cake, but it didn’t hold a candle to either of the Concurrence bottles.

After lunch we hit up Terrapin, trying to score some more of their BBA coffee Wake-N-Bake, Beerista. They were sold out of 4 pks, but had a pint on draft. Also tried their Jazz Cabbage, their take on the hemp ipa craze... Not my favorite.

Left there and grabbed an early dinner and more beer at Akademia. First time there and I wasn’t disappointed. Food was delicious and beers were solid. We split some goat cheese sticks and a buffalo flatbread. Washed it down with a flight of their stouts and capped it off with A-Team. A desert pastry stout with chocolate, maple, bacon, and coffee... So good I had to grab a 4 pack for the house!

Was a good Saturday... Back at home by 7:30 and passed at by 8 haha!

 

What I gather from this article is... hazies are for people who have no taste-buds.

Firestone Double barrel ale clone. Only Firestone pint glass I had.



This was the beer I cut my teeth on in college. Such a good solid ale. My Homebrew clone came out pretty good but thinner than the original which is ok. I mashed at like 148f (on purpose).

First time I’ve used oak barrel chips though, not sure how much they came through.

Dig the story of it though. Props to him.

EDIT: It's actually 6.9%, but from the Untappd pics I can see through all the pours - unfiltered IPA style

 

I tried a clone from more beer when I started homebrewing and had a stuck ferment and gave up. I went to school near Paso Robles and had a lot of good early beers of theirs when I was going out to the bars.

 

To much going on for the floating trip. Maybe a friend could go. Thank you for the heads up

 

GOBS by Newgrass Brewing in Shelby, NC. A dry stout with the most peanut butter flavor of any beer I’ve ever had. Delicious!

 

Dbl_onthebeach. 7% tangerine peach cranberry sour.

And some DIPA haze, Stained Glass Ceilings.

 

Aloha Sculpin is good stuff. I’m a big Manta Ray fan, too.

Calling on the beer experts here for some guidance.

What I mentioned before is happening, as far as going to visit my wife's cousin who works across the street from Trillium. He's OK with picking me up some stuff, and asked what I'd like him to get. Since I've never had any of their stuff, would you peeps mind giving some ideas/suggestions, please???

Fated Farmer - Pluot
Pot & Kettle - Coffee and Vanilla
