For the home brewers on here, have any of you all tried a warm fermented lager? If so, how did it turn out?

I am knee deep in the warm fermented lager thread and it has me itching to try something simple like a Dry hopped Pilsner or a Helles. I like the idea of not having to tie up my ferm chamber for over a month for one batch of beer.

I've done a quite a few that I recall... a California Common, Kentucky Common, Rye IPL, Irish Red Lager, a Blue Moon style wheat, and a Scottish Lager (the last two are still on tap) to name several.

The commons are supposed to be warm fermented, so no surprise there. The others are typical ale styles that I fermented with lager yeast and the only reason being that I tend to brew more lagers than ales these days and I've found that a clean lager yeast makes just as good beer as a clean ale strain, so I pitch fermenter slurry and save myself a starter and get more bang for the buck from every lager starter. I no longer keep any clean ale strains in my yeast bank, as all my clean ale-style brews are done with lager yeast these days.

If the style is a typical lager or an ale that is supposed to be super clean, I will ferment at lager temps. If esters are expected or it's a flavorful ale style, I will ferment it warm (I.e., 65°-68°), but to be honest, I don't really notice any detectable difference between cold and warm fermented lager.

The lager strains I've fermented warm are WLP835 German Lager X and Wyeast 2124 Bohemian Lager. The German Lager X strain has become my "go to" lately. It clears fast and produces a really nice clean brew. Unfortunately, it's a White Labs Yeast Vault strain, so it can be hard to get a hold of, as it's not in regular production.

I made this one a month or two ago, my first go at Lagers, I enjoyed the kegged beer, but this bottled half hasn't quite carbed or cleared. I'd likely try it again, especially when its hot out.

Two days in a row having it, and it's pretty good. And I'm not much of a Stout person to be honest. But I do like this one.

Anyone down to do some trading? Looking to build up my bottle collection.

Here is what I've got open and have multiples of several of these.

Wow I never would have thought about using a lager yeast as a clean ale yeast. But it makes perfect sense after reading through the warm lager thread on homebrewtalk.

I think my next major evolution in home brewing is going to be harvesting and reusing yeast.

What yeast did you use? I did read where people that bottled had issues with the beer clearing up to around 15 days or so of “lagering” in the bottle.

Head on into Jackson and eat at Thai Me Up and grab some Melvin brews while you’re there! Roadhouse Brewing was solid as well!

Sorry I meant to paste a link, oops. WLP029

I've used this method for yeast storage with good results. It's SUPER easy. Never bothered with yeast washing. Easiest way to start re-using yeast is to make a beer and just transfer it onto the old yeast cake. Instant fermentation start.

That yeast storage procedure almost seems too easy. I’m assuming that article doesn’t take dry hopping in to consideration? I doubt you would want a bunch of hop material floating around your stored yeast.

True. If I dry hop, I use bags to keep lots of the hop hunk out. For your standard beer it's pretty simple tho.

Hit up Modern Times tonight since their list was looking solid. Had 2 fantastic hazys (sorry @uhplifted), one mediocre imperial stout with pistachios and one great pastry stout collab with Horus.

Also, this flight was $24. Ouch.
