My sister-in-law and her boyfriend are visiting from Calgary. He recently started getting into beer, but he’s not too familiar with American breweries. We showed him some highs and lows of Vermont and New York beers.

Last night, to my surprise, was Chinese Thanksgiving.

Even married for as long as i have, I am almost weekly surprised by yet another Chinese holiday or festival. I still think my wife and her friends and family just make up these events as an excuse to go out and eat way too much...and to pick on us Gwailos that have married into the fray

Vancouver - and it's environs - is the most 'Asian' city in North America, so it makes perfect sense that the food is phenomenal...notably Chinese - Cantonese, Shanghai, Sichuan, Hainan, Shandong - as well as Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese.

Last night was no exception...the Cantonese dinner was spectacular.

Alas, the skill in preparing a 12 course dinner does not translate into selecting beers; They've got (export for North America) Tsingtao - the Tsingtao sold locally in China and in Hong Kong Macau is very nice - but I still maintain this one smells and tastes like skunk cabbage in the forest.

But the only other choice was Labatts, so.....

From Phillips Brewing and Malting in Victoria....VERY nice Chocolate Porter; dry with a very strong chocolate afterbite, perfect for sipping beside the fire when it is too cold for Human survival outside (it is near to freezing right now, pretty much the end of civilization if you live in Vancouver)

Yeah depends on how many people and size a bottle/can. Good way to try a variety of craft beer.

I think they’re just locally sold in Charlotte, NC. I remember reading about the can ordeal and local no-fun types being pissy and the can didn’t have to pass thru regular review or something because it’s only sold on site.

People are far too sensitive. I though the can would be worse. Keeping it regardless though.

Monday Night Garage 2019 Sutuational Ethics - Praline Pecan. Much better on draft this year. Flavor was pretty good, but the bottle was a good bit thinner than it was on draft.

Trim Tab Language of Thunder Marshmallow Maple variant. This one was pretty good, but I still prefer the bba vanilla variant.

    A689B20B-B7D0-4FE9-A6CF-B404137BEC9A.jpg

Scofflaw Maple Absentium - bba maple stout. This one was great! Scofflaw gets a lot of crap in the Atl beer scene, but their Absentium bba stouts are top notch in my book!

    433F4B89-6081-4432-AF19-1D706BFED67F.jpg

Scofflaw 2nd Anniversary Stout - bba coffee and vanilla stout. This one was ok, but didn’t have the same mouthfeel and barrel flavor of the Absentium series.

    EED9297E-2B2D-47A2-92B3-FEA2E3AFC6DD.jpg

Founders Espresso KBS - bba espresso flavored KBS variant. This one was pretty damn good! I think I preferred it over the standard KBS... Need to do a little side by side comparison, all in the name of science of course haha!

    9A734FE0-D464-44AA-96ED-F331AD83E270.jpg

Trim Tab Cake Therapy - Double chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla icingimperial stout. Perfect holiday diabeetus dessert beer, high abv and great taste!

yeah, what he said^. That stuff sells out every year but sold out even faster after the label debacle. I’ll pick up a couple extra 4 packs next year:thumbsup:
