Is getting into home brewing worth it?

How long did it take to brew up this black IPA (which looks delicious by the way)?

@T-yoda thanks! My grandparents built it, great aunt had a camp next door, one 2nd cousin is across the road & another 2nd cousin is just down the road. I love it there--part of why I moved up here from GA.

Brewing is like any other hobby, you get out of it what you put into it, but the end result is beer, so that's a plus! I enjoy coming up with recipes and tweaking ones I've already brewed in order to make improvements. Of course, being able to drink the fruits of my labor is pretty satisfying.

I've spent a lot on equipment over the years, so that offsets the fact that I can brew 5 gallons of beer for $20-30. I will say having my homebrew on tap is pretty nice. I definitely drink more than I used to before I started brewing, so that could be a drawback to having 8 beers on tap at any given time. Of course, there's no requirement that you go the kegging route. Plenty of homebrewers are happy with bottling their brew, but 5 gallons of beer will yield a little over 50 12 oz bottles, so you still gotta drink up!

The Black IPA was about 2 weeks or so grain to glass which is fairly typical, not including conditioning in the keg which can take a few weeks or longer. That doesn't stop me from drinking it as soon as it goes on tap, though.

Its a camp with exposed plumbing under it so in addition to getting pretty cold in it, there isn't running water mid/late Oct through mid/late May.
