Found a decent beer store/bottle shop while out buying stuff for my wife's new apartment... Philly/PA beer selection, rightfully so, is a bit more Northeastc centric than what I can usually get in the DC area. Picked up some Lawsons Finest Liquids and Finback as well as a mixed 4 pack. Here are 2 from the mixed 4 pack:



I left her half of my Lawsons and Finback haul and am taking the rest back home to DC tomorrow... Also half of the Tired Hands haul.

 

All of your postings make me wish I could try something from Tree House, but as far as I can tell, I can't acquire anything from them down here in Texas. Alas.

 

If you're up for a beer trade, I'd be down to trade with you. I just have to make a run to Tree House and stock up though. Stash is running dangerously low. And I mean DANGEROUSLY low.

 

I'd be down for that but I don't know how to ship beer. Do you? And if so, what kinds of beers do you fancy? We've got some great breweries in Texas.

 

I've done just one of those flat rate usps boxes. Wrap some cans with some bubble wrap, nice and secure, and that's about it. Let me load up on Tree House some more and then we can figure something out.

 

Shipping 101:

1. Cans always go in a ziplock bag. Leaks happen, even with non sours.
2. Put a padded envelope or two on the bottom of the box. These are free from USPS. Wrap beer in bubble mailers or bubble wrap.
3. If you’re shipping sours, it’s good form to use a trash bag of sorts, twist, and tape shut with packed beer inside. This will double prevent your sours from leaking outside of the package and into the box, which can lead to your package not being delivered. It’s good to use ice packs too (if you know someone fancy enough to use HelloFresh or similar, their lines boxes and giant ice packs are GREAT).
4. Tape exposed bottle tops down.
5. Use some kind of noise maker. A box of dollar store candy works well.
6. Use PirateShip to buy your postage. It’s cheaper than paying USPS fees, even flat rate. I could have saved quite a few dollars had I started using this over a year ago. It’s also incredibly easy to use.

 

This is how Bear Republic ships to me. Never had a problem and they throw in stickers.

 

My first shipping experience to @Cativelense made it all the way to "out for delivery" before they said it was all broken and threw it away. I packed tight with bubble wrap and taped bottles, included some taster glasses too. A noisemaker is a good idea, as are all of those little tips from @kakwvu

Kicked the keg of my maybe belgian, maybe pilsner, mystery yeast pale ale last night, so I think I'll be brewing this weekend. Probably a pale ale since everyone seems to like those, but I wish I had a nice stout on for a half glass once in awhile instead of opening 16oz pastry stouts or 750mL 18%ers.

A glorious January August afternoon....that is, it is the Pacific Northwest, so the morning was freakin' cold and raining....and then it was warm and sunny in time for a pint and neighbour stalking, er, watching.

I'm sure it'll snow overnight, of course.

Anyway, another local quaff from a favourite brewer...an easy drink, flavourful, smooth...perfect Juneuary beer for grilling time
