The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

So, given that this is TW, there absolutely MUST be a Scotch/Whiskey/Spirits thread....but THIS thread does say: "What are you drinking?"

So instead of a third C.R.E.A.M. ale.....

Next door to us is The-Renovation-That-Will-Never-End. Insulation blowers and painters and designers and landscapers and drywallers and pool guys and roofers and - especially annoying of late- stone cutters (and no, it is no more palatable knowing that these square rocks have been imported directly from Zeus' personal quarry at the base of Mount Olympus). It is a daily event counting the number of work type trucks that manage to squeeze into our little cul-de-sac, blocking driveways and generally messing with the very fabric of the Universe. Obi Wan would suggest that this fourteen month marathon has created a disturbance in The Force....that would work, actually, since the consensus is that the edifice in question is reminiscent of The Death Star...just as it was blowing up. It is a NHL game-ish event to watch the ballet of diesel belching iron machines...especially on Wednesday, when the recycling and garbage trucks make their weekly appearance. Those lads that work for the waste management company have an impressive vocabulary.

To their credit, the two blokes whose names appear on the sign as 'General Contractors' are good dudes and are doing their level best to reduce the negative impact on the neighbourhood, despite the extraordinary efforts of the homeowners to drag this out until the rest of us succumb to old age.

So, just about to crack that third one....and one of the partners wanders over with a box in hand, a Thursday afternoon peace offering, and asked me to fetch some glasses. As an aside, because I watch NCIS on occasion, I came back with Mason jars.

Now, i am not a blended guy, unless it is Jameson's or some such other Emerald Isle nectar - I still suffer from flashbacks from stealing my Dad's Five Star whiskey as a pre-teen, and Johnnie Walker Red is but a half step above that vile concoction; besides, the true Nectar of the Gods is Bowmore, with its bonafide dirt of the grave essence - but when the Blue was offered, I and the other old coots on the porch critiquing today's crop of drywall-dust covered louts had to accept, strictly out of a sense of duty and courtesy, of course.

A $300 bottle of blended Scotch goes down very nicely. I may have to reconsider my preferences and broaden my horizons.

I’d certainly give that Crimson a shot….

 

It's a VERY unique IPA - I've never had anything else quite like it.
That one had been stored for a couple years. It was a distributed once-a-year release but now only can be had at the Brewery. It comes out in late May or early June before they release Nimble Giant.
