My friends brewery finally opened a tap room

 

I didn't realize how polarizing pumpkin beers are.

 

I have tried beer fermented in a pumpkin. It was very interesting. Sour for sure.

 

I do like pumpkin pie… and roasted pumpkin. So it does have a place at the table. Just keep it the hell out of my coffee, beer, tires, and everything else…

 

I smoked some ribs, and made beans and coleslaw. I tasted a sample of this a year or so ago but couldn't really remember it. This seemed like it would be fun and somehow proper to have with smoked ribs, beans and coleslaw. It really does taste exactly like fizzy pickle juice. Sour, salty, a little bit of herbs and spices - especially a bit of a pepper warmth - and a hint of beer. It's fun in a novelty sort of way but it's not something I'll want regularly. Maybe again next summer...

 

I wonder, with pickle juice, if it's good for a hangover?

 

There’s supposed to be a chicken over that… unless you like warm beer.

I’m not quite sure I would embrace the pickle beer. I like pickles and all - sweet, sour, etc. Just not sure I want it in my beer… but maybe it will work for beercan chicken?

 

Noticed this foreign invader… happy to see beers become more regional.

 

Haven't posted in a while....spent some time catching up with everything on here. Hanging out in England for a month allows time to do that...work, beer, hotel. Wash, rinse repeat for a month...last weekend in UK. Anyway, this being the second time out, found a wonderful place here in Portsmouth, Urban Island Brewing. They make great hazies and IPA's, small and very neat brews. It seems the Brits aren't fond of hazy beers. Goes back to traditional cask beers. If a cask beer is hazy, that meant it was muddy, or spoiled. So they just don't do them, but the brewmaster persists with his ideas. Met the owners, and they sent beer to this despondent American in January when going to bars & pubs was not allowed, they have shifted their focus into kegs and cask beers going to pubs and restaurants. This time out was able to go to their place, pretty tiny, and set up more for outside enjoyment (when they are open), and wasn't able to get it as much, as I am not leaving fresh beer at the front desk.
Going home this week. I don't even remember what home brews I have at home on tap. I'll have to catch up on them next week!

I hope you’re not judging pumpkin beers only by what Sam Adams has to offer. Try Dogfish Head’s Punkin Ale.
