Bottled off my Brown Ale yesterday. Had a 1/2 bottle leftover for sampling purposes. Should be pretty darn good once it carbonates.

Brewed a honey wheat ale yesterday with a starting OG right around 1.050. During the downtime, we made use of a few quarts of actual honey I recently acquired and got the ball rolling on what will be an oaked maple sparkling mead.(First time making mead, super stoked!)

How many lbs of honey vs how many gallons of water for the mead? I've considered making mead before, but the recipes all seem to call for 15-20lbs of honey and that gets expensive in a hurry.

The recipe I used called for 10 lbs. of honey for 5 gallons of water.. A quart of honey weighs about 3 lbs., so 3 1/3 quarts was all I needed. Even that can be pricey, so if I end up making more in the future I'll have to find some kind of honey connection!

I ended up adding some yeast nutrient to the initial brew and will have to add some more periodically as it ferments. Through various sources I've found that the honey is low in the nutrients that yeast require.

That's not bad, 10lbs. That could probably be manageable.
I just need to hurry up and get bees, lol.
