The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

My friend lied to me. He said next week now.

Mmm. Not very hoppy but tasty.

 

Bottles age just fine just make sure they're kept cool and out of the light. Hops don't age gracefully so drink those sooner than later

 

Fermentation Fridays!

Hey! Wait! Today is Thursday. Oh well. I'm taking tomorrow off from work to make it a long weekend, so we got together today. Brian hosted tonight's get together and we started off with a home-brew raspberry sour that he made. Check out the labels. No wonder he's now part-timing at a real brewery, Los Angeles Ale Works.


Next up was this incredible saison from Brasserie BFM. I LOVED THIS BEER!


And then we were presented with this line-up from Bruery Terreux of Elements of Funk 2015. These are basically all the same beer but made with different strains of brett. Talk about fun!!!


First from this set was made with brettanomyces claussenii. This had fantastic brett aromas, but thinner on the taste. It reminded me somewhat of Hillfarmsted beers.


Second was made with brettanomyces drei. This particular bottle was a total bottle bomb, and we probably lost half the bottle after opening. Nonetheless, the flavors were incredible with a very tropical fruit finish and voted the best out of the bunch.


Third was made with brettanomyces lambicus, which is a very common brett strain. However, this was our least favorite.


Fourth was made with brettanomyces bruxellensis and was our 2nd favorite out of the four.


And now...I have to get back to work. UGH!

 

Cool! They've been in the fridge since I got them, and we don't open that fridge very often for the light to come on, and when we do open it it is just for a few seconds. But definitely plan on drinking them ASAP now for sure!

No need to be that cautious with bottles. The brown glass blocks just about everything that can hurt the beer, especially for the short times you're exposing it. The real issue is storing it in a nice bright sunny room or something like that. I mostly find beers getting lightstruck when I drink a beer from a glass outside on a sunny day.

 

This one grew on me as I drank it. Heavy on the tart raspberry. Still not my thing

 

Ah. Makes sense. I just remembered i still have some cans of the Nod Hill I picked up on release day a few weeks ago. Gotta get to those asap

 

Tough soccer game tonight. Lost 4-2. Fucking pissed right now. Team as a whole played like shit. Time to drown my sorrows in this.

Throwing it down like it's nothing... already 11:55pm out here, gotta get up at 5:20am, so debating whether or not I want to have another one.

I'm still at work and now drinking alone...IT'S HYUGE from Local Craft Beer.

My first impression was good with a strong tropical fruit flavor. But as I drink it, I find it a bit too sweet and flat. Also, there's a slight poopy diaper smell that really turns me off. Not good! So I'm probably not gonna drink this one again. But at 11%, I'm sure to get a good buzz off of it. hahahahaha
